SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Writers Talk About Bringing The Venom Symbiote Into The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Spider-Man: No Way Home writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna have discussed leaving a piece of the Venom symbiote behind in the movie's mid-credits scene, teasing the alien's possible MCU future...

In Venom: Let There Be Carnage's mid-credits scene, Eddie Brock was pulled into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his symbiote took an immediate interest in a news report about Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: No Way Home followed up on that with a mid-credits scene of its own showing Eddie being sent back to his world, but leaving a piece of the symbiote behind. Now, the stage has been set for the MCU's Peter Parker to don the alien costume from the comic books, and writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna touched on that possibility during IGN Fan Fest (via CBR).

"It leaves the door open for possibilities," Sommers teased. "As opposed to just seeing him go back and not seeing any symbiote. So it just allows for some exciting possibilities in the future."

As for whether there is now a future in the MCU for Venom, McKenna responded, "I have no idea. That is above our pay grade. We are part of a bigger, larger universe that we are not the gods of, we're just mortals in." He later added that it was funny to them to see the sixth member of the Sinister Six spend Spider-Man: No Way Home getting drunk in a bar rather than heading to the Big Apple.

It's worth noting that Spider-Man: Homecoming dropped a big Scorpion tease in its mid-credits scene that's never been touched on, so there's nothing to say Marvel Studios will transport the symbiote from Mexico to New York for a meeting with Peter. That would be a shame, but it could be Sony has plans to find another way for Tom Holland's web-slinger to meet Tom Hardy's Lethal Protector.

Spider-Man 4 is in active development, but doesn't currently have a release date.

It would be pretty disappointing to see that tease not manifest anywhere in the next films. Kind of like The Leader in TIH.

Though rumors say he might show up in She-Hulk.

@Manmarvel - prefer solo Spiderman movies. Not a big fan of the large ensemble movies.

I personally didn't like the approach they took to the symbiote joining the MCU, it seemed too convenient

@duncboy - Terrible idea, worst thing that has happened to the MCU so far imo, the awful Sonyspiderverse movies should have never had any kind of connection to the MCU.

@duncboy - Sony gonna Sony. So Feige has to adapt to maneuver the situation foisted upon him yet keep our best opportunity for a complete Marvel Universe. Sony has jacked up all these characters, the MCU has to make them work some how, as it appears Sony has some control and power to act in this situation. Guessing Disney wouldn't shell out to end Sony's reign of terror, so Feige had to make do. So far he has taken a sh!t sandwich and grown an infinite garden.

I hate that there is a Sony Spiderverse with stupid movies unconnected to our Spider-Man. I hate there is a Venom who did not come outta a hate for Spidey, a dark mirror with more power and no limits. It is lame there is a Morbius solo movie, and more solo movies coming for supporting characters who can't even keep a comic series. They all need Spidey to exist. A Kraven solo is dumb and a waste. I was fully against the idea of No Way Home, as it seemed too soon for such a story. But they pulled it off, & I ate my words. Now with this residue of left behind Symbiote, I have faith Feige can make it work and fix the past Sonies, once again. Not the most ideal situation, but Kevin Feige has proven himself multiple times over.

So MCU Venom will be a knockoff Venom. Ok cool.

Who is going to be the host will be interesting to see. My hope is that it's MCU Eddie Brock but I could also see it being Gargan. After playing Spider-man 2 next year I might be open to it being Harry Osborn.

Alan Ritchson for MCU Eddie Brock.
