SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Writers Talk About Bringing The Venom Symbiote Into The Marvel Cinematic Universe

In Venom: Let There Be Carnage's mid-credits scene, Eddie Brock was pulled into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his symbiote took an immediate interest in a news report about Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: No Way Home followed up on that with a mid-credits scene of its own showing Eddie being sent back to his world, but leaving a piece of the symbiote behind. Now, the stage has been set for the MCU's Peter Parker to don the alien costume from the comic books, and writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna touched on that possibility during IGN Fan Fest (via CBR).

"It leaves the door open for possibilities," Sommers teased. "As opposed to just seeing him go back and not seeing any symbiote. So it just allows for some exciting possibilities in the future."

As for whether there is now a future in the MCU for Venom, McKenna responded, "I have no idea. That is above our pay grade. We are part of a bigger, larger universe that we are not the gods of, we're just mortals in." He later added that it was funny to them to see the sixth member of the Sinister Six spend Spider-Man: No Way Home getting drunk in a bar rather than heading to the Big Apple.

It's worth noting that Spider-Man: Homecoming dropped a big Scorpion tease in its mid-credits scene that's never been touched on, so there's nothing to say Marvel Studios will transport the symbiote from Mexico to New York for a meeting with Peter. That would be a shame, but it could be Sony has plans to find another way for Tom Holland's web-slinger to meet Tom Hardy's Lethal Protector.

Spider-Man 4 is in active development, but doesn't currently have a release date.
