SPIDER-MAN 2 And More Of The Wall-Crawler's Classic Movies Will Be Re-Released In Theaters This Summer

While we wait for news on Spider-Man 4, it's been confirmed today that eight classic Spider-Man movies will return to theaters later this year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Columbia Pictures...

2024 will see Sony celebrate the 100th anniversary of Columbia Pictures and, thanks to Cinemark, we've learned that several Spider-Man movies will be re-released in theaters over the next few months.

Spider-Man (2002) opens on April 15, with Spider-Man 2 (2004) following on April 22 before the trilogy closes out with Spider-Man 3 (2007) on April 29. We know many of you won't have seen these in theaters, so if this is your first chance to do so, we'd strongly recommend at least the first two!

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) follows on May 6, with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) not too far behind on May 13.

Unsurprisingly, Marvel Studios' trilogy is also getting the big screen treatment again with Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) on May 20, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) on May 27, and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) on June 3.

As far as we're aware there aren't currently any plans for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to be re-released.

"There is one thing that separates a major studio from all other content producers: history. At Columbia, that history is reflected in the countless cultural talismans created by thousands of people over now 100 years. All of us at Columbia are proud of that legacy and honoured to celebrate it," said Tom Rothman, Chairman & CEO of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, earlier this year.

Columbia Pictures was founded by brothers Harry and Jack Cohn and best friend Joe Brandt on January 10, 1924. After Frank Capra’s 1934 classic It Happened One Night swept the Oscars, Columbia Pictures established itself as an elite studio, responsible for numerous films from award-winners and timeless classics to pop-culture phenomenon.

Among them are movies like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Lawrence of Arabia, Taxi Driver, Tootsie, The Karate Kid, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Men In Black, Ghostbusters, Boyz n the Hood, Groundhog Day, The Social Network, Jumanji, Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood, Little Women, Spider-Man, and many more.

"Absolutely, yeah," Tom Holland told us in 2021 when we asked if he was inspired by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men. "I think before I started shooting Spider-Man: No Way Home, before the first day, I had rewatched all of their movies. I think I’ve done that for all of my Spider-Man movies."

"Their films are so fantastic and so rich with details that, you know, I’ve missed in the past so I go back and watch them and steal little things here and there that I love. I have definitely revisited their films."

Which of these Spider-Man movies are you excited to watch again?

In select theatres or everywhere?
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/9/2024, 9:04 AM
@Highflyer - I'm guessing it's in select (Cinemark) theatres, as it's an impossible endeavor to release that many movies a week apart on a large scale.

Can't seem to find out for sure though, so maybe?

@bkmeijer1 @Highflyer - I just looked at my Cinemark theater (Tallahassee)coming movies. It has some re-releases including one as far out as July but no sign of Spider-Man.

@RolandD - guessing I'm gonna change my verdict to 'most likely select theatres' then. Think it might even be limited to just California even
RolandD
RolandD - 3/9/2024, 10:08 AM
@bkmeijer1 - Tallahassee and its best is a midsize market so perhaps it’s going to show up in larger cities
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/9/2024, 10:30 AM
@RolandD - could be. Where I live there's no cinema chain theatre and only an independant one. They never show rereleases or remasters here (except for that one time with Jurassic Park, where they forced me to buy a double ticket for Fallen Kingdom)

They've run out of woke movies, non of their modern shit is working, "release the classics!"

@Chaos200 - they’ve been rereleasing classic movies for forever.

@Chaos200 - They actually just came up with the idea of re-releasing films on studio anniversaries. First time this is ever happening. And yes, you are very much correct, based on my research, this is indeed because woke movies are not making any cash!

This is still one of the best superhero movie fight scenes to date.
Matchesz
Matchesz - 3/9/2024, 9:49 AM
@KWilly - it really is. Every fight since has always felt one sided or cut short like they didnt even want to film it or too cgi heavy. But this fight started from the top of a clocktower and ended with a huge sacrificial rescue scene and the villain still won. Never had anything like it since. Both was pushed to their limits

@KWilly - It rules. What a terrific sequence that is - starting from when Spidey snags his costume out of JJ’s office. Wow. Just - wow. Perfection.

@KWilly - it's still one of the best comic book films period.

@KWilly -

if they release this masterpiece, I'd like to see the extended version, it adds nothing to the story
but
this fight is even more glorious with added minutes to it.

Ghostbusters is one of the 5 movies to have ever made me laugh hard. The others being Borat, Aladdin (1992), Young Frankenstein, and Holy Grail.

As a 37 y.o. guy who watched Spider-Man as a 15 y.o. comic book fan at cinemas for the first time in 2002, i highly recommend anyone who is younger here and hasn't seen them to go to the cinema for at least the first and second. Amazing experience. I'll sure go re-watch them if they bring them over here (Greece) at our cinemas.

Definitely taking the kids to Spiderman 2

While I love be Spider-man 2 and will definitely be rewatching that in the theater again it does always crack me up that Aunt May did more damage hitting Doc Ock with her umbrella than Spider-Man did with his super powered punches. One punch from Spidey should have taken Doc Ocks head clean off. 🤷‍♂️🤣

@AnthonyVonGeek - Not if Spider-Man was holding back, like he does with non-supes.

I remember when I heard James Cameron was attached to write and direct at one time. Then I heard it was Sam Raimi, of The Evil Dead, and I was like, this is going to be a darker film. I watched all of them in the theater since 2002. Spider-man 2 is the best.

This is good, I actually missed Spider-man 3 in theaters. Hopefully I can catch it, then I can say, I've seen all the Spider-Man films at the movies!
MarvelZombie616
MarvelZombie616 - 3/9/2024, 2:09 PM
I have seen all Spider-Man movies in theatres on opening day.

I missed the red carpet premiere of the first X-Men movie in my hometown of Cologne despite all actors being there.
I saw it a few days later at the regular premiere.

I don't know if the movies will play here, but i would re-watch Spiderman 1-3.

God this article makes me feel old, I'm 46! I was 24 when Spider-Man came out in 2002! I watched the 90s cartoon series when it aired here in the UK as a teenager! I watched frickin' Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends on Saturday mornings when I was about 5!

Gen X Spidey is the best film version of Spidey. Count me in. All three movies had memorable scenes and lines; to wit:
