What Spider-Man 3 Actually Did Well, Why It Isn't the Worst Film

Spider-Man 3 often goes down unfairly as the black sheep of the Sam Raimi trilogy. It's considered a well enough conclusion, but it mostly gets a bad rep. Here's five things that it did very well, though.

I've never truly understood the bad rep that Spider-Man 3 had gotten. There has only ever been one jarring scene to me, and that was when Harry Osborn attacked Mary Jane. That scene felt so off and out of place to me. I get it, though, Topher Grace was a shitty choice for Venom. The worst choice possible. I mean look at all the people Sam Raimi could've cast... and probably just to screw with Avi Arad - who made Raimi write the character into a script involving Vulture and Sandman. It should've been Raimi's vision, but it wasn't.

Anyways, if you guys liked the video, please like, share and subscribe. Please let me know your opinions on Spider-Man 3 either in the comments here or at YouTube.

You have a point. Venom and the New Goblin were stupid, as was the dancing, but Sandman was alright, and it wrapped up the trilogy well.

I liked a lot in this movie. My only real complaint is the way the Venom symbiote was worked in. Everything about it. The way it crashed to earth. The way it made Parker act. The way it was all a work up to Venom, and he was only in the movie for 10 minutes. How small Venom was. For one of my favorite Spider-Man villains, I was just disappointed. Hell they made Sandman much more enjoyable and he's not one of my favorite Spidey villains.

This type of article is not an editorial. You've been told this numerous times before.

Yaf - 12/18/2016, 4:58 PM
@Philip - How is this not an editorial? This is the very definition of an editorial. Some schmuck talking about how he feels on a topic.
Philip
Philip - 12/18/2016, 7:14 PM
@Yaf - yes, but in order for it to be an editorial said schmuck must explain said feelings/opinions, not just state them. This dude is just trying to get views for his channel by spreading his videos as much as he can, so he writes a few general lines so that he can try and pass his videos off as editorials.

Also, if one wants to be really petty, he's only stating two extremely general opinions.

"There has only ever been one jarring scene to me, and that was when Harry Osborn attacked Mary Jane"
"That scene felt so off and out of place to me"

- why?

The rest is just a bunch of unsupported claims. Topher Grace worst possible choice? Probably not, but explain why?
I could go into further details, but I'm jet lagged and have been traveling for 35h, so this is enough for now.

I might sound like a dick, but maybe I'm just not feeling his whole recording videos in his moms basement, making voices, and wearing sunglasses indoors shtick.

@Philip - Well you outdicked me for sure, but I can tell you one thing for certain. But while I didn't like the video, he did explain why he thought what he did in it. It seems like you're taking issue with him only including two lines above the video, which is more than most people who post videos here do anyways. Plus, mom's basement? Really? The dude has a [frick]ing beard bro.

@Yaf - I will admit that this video at least attempts to be an editorial, much more so than his previous ones. There's still plenty of bold claims without support though, and his explanations are unfortunately still very vague (for example, describing how a scene took place doesn't necessarily support why that scene worked).

I've seen plenty of people with beards who still lives at home.
Also, for someone who wears sunglasses indoors and refers to himself as a "crew", the basement thing isn't too far-fetched, is it?

@Philip - This video is better than his other ones. I don't like it, but it is. As for the basement thing, yeah, that's pretty far fetched. Having had looked at his other videos, his crew could actually be a number of things. It could be that other youtuber he credits in his videos or it could be a few members from his game development team. I have no clue and his videos have potential, but one thing I'm pretty sure on, this guy doesn't seem to be a basement bitch like, say this [frick]er I just looked up:

@Philip - Hey, my basement is actually being rented out so... I can't film there, this is actually filmed in my bedroom. I wear my sunglasses because I record in front of a light source because my room is unorganized and I'd rather not deal with a migraine later.

I understand what you mean by editorial and will try to fully explore topics next time I create a video which I believe has content that can contribute to discourse here. The reason why I didn't include a more in depth intro in the article before I posted my video here this time is going to sound like the most Canadian reason ever, but my hands were cold, they were literally freezing so I rushed it. However, I strive for perfection and I'll try to do better next time, if there is a next time.

Oh, and the Cutlock Crew refers to me and a few friends of mine who've been doing video, music production and programming projects for over five years together now. @Yaf was close but not fully right.

What Spider-Man 3 Actually Did Well, Why It Isn't the Worst Film......

I agree The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel are worse.

@marvel72 - nah. the two movies of webb are much better. better romance. better dialogues and electro and rhino Have never been interesting villains. Instead Venom is an important iconic villain and was completely humiliated and wasted.

It's certainly the worst Spider-Man film. And I'm tired of hearing "it wasn't Sam Raimi's fault." It was just as much Raimi's fault as it was Sony's. It was Raimi's idea to shove all of the plotlines into one movie, which he has admitted himself.

The first two Spider-Man films might have been good, but they do not exempt Raimi for his role in Spider-Man 3.

"I've never truly understood the bad rep that Spider-Man 3 had gotten."

To me, the answer is clear as daylight.

I mainly disliked how they made Sandman responsible for Uncle Ben. Hated that retcon. Disliked the campy parts too, like the dancing, the emo, and Harry's amnesia (Can we all agree that amnesia is the most contrived plot device in the history of writing?).

This movie also wastes Gwen Stacy.

But I pretty much liked everything else. I enjoyed Harry taking up his father's mantle as the New Goblin, and it's rare to see a villain have an arc in a trilogy the same as the hero. Retcon notwithstanding, Sandman is pretty spot on casting and look and abilities (which I appreciate even more these days, considering how today's movies keep screwing with classic characters).

And yes I liked Venom. Eddie Brock may have been miscast (though I'd argue at the time, Topher Grace WAS the antithesis of Tobey Maguire, so it weirdly worked for me), but when the symbiote finally joins, it was great to see Venom come to life and these were my favorite parts of the movie.

Of course I can also talk about why I liked The Amazing Spiderman 2 even better!

Sandman was great, from conception to being introduced in an almost sympathetic light. What threw off the movie overall was the oddball interpretation of what the symbiote caused to happen. There was too much camp in the portrayal of the psychological effects on Peter and anyone else for that matter. It needed a voice over or some character of it's own besides a screeching owl howl. Where budget helped, the movie had too much going on for it's own good. The above dancing scenes were god-awful too!
