Could Marvel And Sony Be Planning A SPIDER-GWEN Movie?

We're still not privy to all of the details of the Sony-Marvel collaboration on Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe but could a Spider-Gwen movie be part of the deal?

Could a Spider-Gwen Movie be in the works?

Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter Is Reportedly Keenly Interested In Spider-Gwen

According to BleedingCool.com, the Spider-Gwen solo series from Marvel received the green-light from Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter, Kevin Feige's boss.  The site reports that Spider-Gwen was originally slated to only appear in Spider-Verse and Edge of Spider-Verse but Perlmutter really liked the role-reversal concept of Stacy Gwen getting bit by the radioactive spider and Peter Parker dying.

Prior to their deal with Marvel, Sony was trying to expand their Spider-Man franchise with a Sinister Six film and female Spider-Man spinoff.  Many assumed that the female Spider-Man spinoff would star Black Cat, Silver Sable or Spider-Woman but what if it was Spider-Gwen all along?  BC reckons that if Marvel continues to push Spider-Gwen post-Secret Wars, then don't be surprised if the character gets her own film.  It would definitely be a way to totally reinvent the franchise and separate it from what Sam Raimi and Marc Webb have previously given audiences.  Another question to ponder is whether Marvel and Sony would look to bring back Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy?  We are talking about alternate-realities after all so all possibilities would be on the table.

Lisa Joy Nolan (Westworld) was previously hired by Sony to write the spinoff.

I hate the name Spider Gwen. Please tell me in the comic that's not what she calls herself. Why have your secret identity part of your super hero name. I hope it's just what the general public calls her.

@WYLEEJAY She calls herself Spider-Woman in the comic even though the actual title of the series is Spider-Gwen.

The book is terrible and the character hasn't done anything noteworthy. It doesn't make a lot of sense to make a Spider movie with that history of shaky reception for an untested character. And Emma Stone would make zero sense at this point.
The only reason a female movie ever made sense was because dead-Emma could have been used to bring in the symbiotes, since she became Carnage in the Ultimate stories.

@MarkJulian. Ah. Ok. Thanks that makes more sense cause they would have to establish the title of the comic as not Jessica Drews. Let's just hope the studio can tell the difference and not call her Spider Gwen. The character sounds interesting.

According to BleedingCool.com

This is just as bad as the rumors from Jeff Sneider and Devin Faraci that were posted the other day.

Wouldn't Gwen look the same if it's an alternate universe?
and I'm pretty sure Emma Stone will not be coming back.

I'm sad Asa is allegedly out of the running.
But I'm hoping for Elle Fanning for Gwen (Spider Gwen too!)
I could see a Spider Gwen working on screen. The Spider verse is pretty cooky.

There are a lot of movies I would like to see before that and yes they include Black Cat, Silver Sable, and Spider-woman. An quite honestly I like Mary Jane Watson as a character way way way more than Gwen Stacy and certainly the Mary Jane/Peter relationship more.

@CherryBomb I have to say she would be a great fit for the role! Also, I bet everyone complaining about spider Gwen hasn't even read it

The ONLY way this would happen is if Marvel caught wind that WB/DC is REALLY going to do Crisis in 2024 and wanted to steal a little thunder.

BTW, since we're talking about complete speculation: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/superman/news/?a=121597

We're getting an on screen Transformers cinematic universe
A Universal zombies cinematic universe. So what's wrong with a Spider Man one?
He is a character that has so much mythos and history that go beyond just Spider Man and has spawned tons of popular characters both heroes, villains and alternative universes.

I think if it had a good director and great writers it could be something special.

You know what would be a great Spider-Man spin off film?

And then for the Spidey's solo films...

@SomeOtherGuy Stan Lee isn't the only person who can create a character, ya know. He's incredible, but everyone is acting like nothing new can ever be done
