I read the reviews Rotten Tomatoes had to offer and I watched the meter slowly drop and decline and I went into the movie saying "wow, this could be a huge mistake." The only mistake I made was sitting near a family who paid ten dollars to be on their phones the whole time.
Be The Sheppard
I thoroughly enjoyed the film and it reminds me of the first time you go on a rollercoaster and your family is trying to scare you before going on. You are timid in line and then full blown terrified and close to tears on the ride but as it goes on, your fears slowly fade and it turns out it wasn't as bad as your family made it out to be and instead, it was alot of fun and probably some of the most fun you've had in a while. This movie boasts some of the best Spidey scenes of all time and the ending is probably one of the most saddest due to the strong preformances in the movie. This isn't like Green Lantern or Batman & Robin it's a film that does more right than wrong. So all in all, be your own person and don't follow review sites. "WELL WHAT IF THEY SHARE THE SAME VIEWS AS ME?" Well that's fine and dandy but every single movie? Seriously? There's a reason why no two people are exactly the same.
Cmon Man!
I know what you're thinking. "Oh my god what a fan boy I'm definitely going to demolish him in the comments section for this atrocity." Well before you do hear me out first. Like any movie it does have it's flaws. Even though Harry Osborn was very well done by Dane Dehaan, the relationship between him and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker felt rushed and didn't carry the depth needed for the eventual betrayal. Not only that, but Jamie Foxx's Electro also felt a tad off. His love turned hate for Spider-Man seemed stretched. How do you go from being obsessed with this guy (who also saved your life) to hating him in the matter of 2 minutes?
Repeat That For Me Please?
Some of the complaints for this movie is complete and obvious nitpicking that just continues on from the first film. Some examples? "Spider-Man is still growing up!", "Spider-Man ran through about 60 years of comic history!", "Too many villians!" "Electro disappears for most of the film!", "Peter Parker is still a hipster!" "Too many jokes!" "They didn't show Spider-Man's costume change!" "They started the movie with practical effects and then jumped into a cgi web scene!" I could continue on but you catch my drift. There is not a complaint that is constantly addressed EXCEPT......
What Killed The Dinosaurs?
Calling this film the "
Batman & Robin" of the
Spider-Man franchise is complete flame-bait. It's so insulting that it is guaranteed to cause a war in the comments section and that's why it's used just so that the article is guaranteed multiple views trust me, ask Josh Wilding about it. Whoever says Electro is a bad pun machine like Mr. Freeze didn't watch the movie. DId he make a bad pun? Yeah he did, all two of them in fact. Another pair of issues was the plot and this filming having too many villains. Maybe I am a genius and don't know it but my brain didn't hurt watching the film and I followed the plot from start to finish and didn't once go "wait what happened?" As for the villains? Cmon son, two villains was completely fine and Rhino's end cameo was perfect. Harry didn't become the Goblin until before the climax and Rhino didn't become Rhino until the very end. Also it's not like these characters will never be used again and were thrown away. In fact, I'm pretty sure a certain Gobby and hornhead will return.
The Verdict
All in all, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was alot of fun and some of the complaints it is recieving comes from the land of absurdity. Is it on the same level as a certain superhero politcal thriller? Well no, because this film doesn't try to be a political thriller. Is it an oscar worthy film? No, but it is certainly not on the level as a certain caped crusader and his boy wonder.
