Uncle Ben's Killer Returning for Spider-Man 4?

Uncle Ben's Killer Returning for Spider-Man 4?

Thanks to a scooper at SHH, we've learned that during a Q&A with Ted Raimi and Michael Papajohn at Wizard World Philadelphia, Papajohn (aka the carjacker/original killer of Uncle Ben from the Spider-Man films) said that he would be reprising his role for Spider-Man 4. He then proceeded to say if he told us what his role entailed, he'd have to kill us.

I wonder what Papajohn could possibly be doing? Considering that it looked like he fell to his death in Spidey 1, maybe just a flashback scene? Or maybe Raimi wants to clear up the whole confusion that was brought about by making Sandman the killer in Spider-Man 3?

Spider-Man 4 is coming to theaters May 6, 2011.

wow why the hell can't Raimi let Ben RIP he died 4 movies ago get over it, In the movie universe it has been 2 1/2 years since he died i think and now with the 4th film it will have to be 3+ years later I know I would be over my uncle/fathers death by then, I would still miss em but I wouldn't dwell on it like they are having Pete do, GOD Peter needs to stop being so emo.

This is what went bad with the first set of Batman movies. They used the Death of the Waynes as a plot point in all of them, and tweaked it a bit but focussed on Alfred in that piece of crap called Batman and Robin. We know Spidey used his Uncle Ben as motivation, but jeepers criminy, get on with it. Everyone knows, "With great power comes great responsibility" so they should use that extra movie time to make the villain more fleshed out instead of douching us with another 'Venom' like shallow character.

flashbacks and talking about a hero past are always going to be in the comic book world so either accept it or maybe comic books are not for you

Sam Raimi has screwed up SOOO much stuff in Spider-Man, however good his intentions. MAYBE they can somehow fix the stupidity of Flint Marko being involved with the killing of Uncle Ben. So long as the costume designer, JAMES ACHESON, doesn't return that'll be a step in the right direction. Everything visually that has ever sucked with the Spider-Man films, Green Goblin Power Ranger, Green Goblin Snowboarder, Wimpy Venom, 10-story tall Mummyesque Sandman, etc. has been due to him! How hard is it to copy/adapt designs from the comics, i.e. the Spider-Man costume?!? James Acheson should be let go of because of his excessive EGO ("I rejected any other designs except that which I-I-I-I created!"). His design work is absolutely horrid. Has anyone seen his initial designs for Spidey's suit? He tried to Power Ranger that too except with a big slit down the middle!!! What an idiot!!!!! He also tried to pitch an all red suit with a gigantic black spider. Please no more James Acheson.

Regarding the revisionism in SM3, remember that Raimi had Flint Marko only holding the gun on Uncle Ben and then Papajohn's character bumped into Marko which accidentally caused Marko to fire the gun. So really Marko didn't kill Uncle Ben and the original killer is still the true responsible for Uncle Ben's death. Sure, legally Marko would still be guilty of murder under the Felony Murder Rule but had Peter stopped the robber, Uncle Ben would still be alive. But, we get a bastardization of the truly glorious original Stan Lee tale which allows for Peter to still feel guilty and Marko to still feel guilty BUT at heart is still a good guy.

Nonetheless, it would be AWESOME if Raimi was filming footage for a 'Special Edition' SM3 to fix some of his glaring errors. Why don't these people think through what they're doing? Why start with Mary Jane instead of Gwen Stacey? Why the pointless organic webshooters? It's not like organic webshooters coming out of some guys wrists are any more believable! If you were going for realism, the web would come out of Peter's ass and that wouldn't work well onscreen now, would it? Stan Lee is clearly a genius storyteller. Give him some credit and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Same thing with the costume designs, Mr. Acheson. Your hubris makes forces you to redesign classic garb instead of just adjusting.

Same thing with TDK, they could have adjusted the dialog only slightly to give a little more sense to Batman having to take the blame for Two Face's killings. As it was, that plot point made no sense at all!

Ben Parker is a constant throughout the SpiderMan comics. Why change it in the movies?

I agree with California, but leave TDK alone. That is an entity of it's own.

@California@ ummm....did you watch all of SM3?.... because the bump scenario you think they should have done is what happened, Flint tells Pete that at the end of the movie it even has a flashback to it.

@MercuryWest@ I know Uncle Ben is a constant reminder in the comics but it's not in every story arc there for it doesn't need to be revisited in every movie.

...Mysterio is going to obviously be the villain in this movie.

Sounds good to me.

god, this Supermike guy is a douche. does he even read comic books? uncle ben isnt mentioned all the time apart from a brief mention here and there and his death isnt contantly recycled again and again as it has been in Spider-Man 2 and 3!

I dont like the fact that they made Sandman Bens killer, but if they go back again and say, "well actually, THIS HAPPENED" it would be even worse! I think Macksimus is on to something. He will either be an illusion of there will be some time travel involved..anyone know any time travelling Spidey villains?

Electro! Uncle Ben's killer can be Electro. He got his power from the electric chair that was strike by a lightning. He is seeking vengeance because he got the "chair" for a crime he believes he did not commit. And about his "fall". Well he survived obviously.Hoping he did not came back to life as Morbius.

And finally the Sinister 6! How the S6 was formed is how the Spidey franchise should focus on. Fans are anticipating the coming of S6 since Doc Oc was introduced.

The Lizard can also be the next obvious villain (his genetic issue can also be connected with the Scorpio plus the involvement of J.J.Jameson twist ). The coming of the Lizard character has been implied as early as Spidey 2.

Hey Rorschach01, I made the same mistake and would have kept thinking that if it wasn't for Osiris adroitly pointing out to me that there were TWO scenes in SM3 which dealt with Uncle Ben's death. The first one is all that anyone, including myself, seems to remember. But Osiris is right, Flint Marko actually just was holding the gun and Papajohn's character pushing Marko is what caused the gun to go off accidentally. It's still a pointless bastardization of a truly glorious Stan Lee story, but technically in the Raimi Spidey-verse, Marko was just a dupe in Uncle Ben's death.

I did pause the Blu-ray at the moment of death for Venom, however, and there is no doubt that he died. As for Harry or Norman, the GG super-serum could have allowed them to recover from a state of near-death and inducing madness in the process. As for Doc Ock, all we really saw of him was that he was quickly sinking but I don't think his metal arms were bound to the energy device so maybe he was free to have his arms swim out and save him. So, the Sinister Six for the sixth movie is still possible.

Kudos again to Osiris for catching my error.

California
California - 6/22/2009, 12:23 AM
@Leee777, I won't dispute your wisdom, but all I can say is that if you take the dvd or blu-ray for SM3 & watch the part where Venom is trapped and the bomb goes off, you can see that all of the flesh is dematerialized and then so is Eddie Brock's skeleton. I watched it hoping that Venom was merely blasted out of the makeshift cage but no such luck. ILM, or whoever did the effects clearly left no room for Eddie Brock to live again.

Jeez just so long as he doesn't become Electro or Rhino or something, it was hard enough to by Sandman as the unremarked upon shooter. If this guy is in more than a flash back I'm taking my popcorn and heading home

iv paused the blu ray and seen the skeleton of Eddie Brock but at the end of the day you have to pause the film to see this...99% of people wouldnt bother (and i only did because i heard people talk about it on here and wanted to see it for myself) remember, this is a comic book movie!!! anything is possible (but Venom should be given a break for a few movies so they can introduce great villains like Scorpion and Elecro!)

as for ben's killer just make it ANOTHER boring flashback and get on with the film. Raimi is so interested in making this Peter Parkers story, well look how that worked out in Spider-Man 3-emo look and dancing down the street-about a million times different to what Peter should be! If raimi mucks this one up as well, its time to look for a new director...
