Ed Harris Addresses SUICIDE SQUAD 'Rick Flagg Sr.' Rumor; Joel Kinnaman Talks Up David Ayer

As Ed Harris responds to rumors that he's up for the Rick Flagg Sr. role, his Run All Night co-star Joel Kinnaman talks more about being cast as Rick Flagg Jr in Suicide Squad, and he also praises David Ayer.

In addition to Joel Kinnaman's confirmation that he will be playing Rick Flagg Jr. in Suicide Squad, yesterday's press junket for the upcoming Run All Night thriller also saw veteran actor Ed Harris address the rumors from earlier this year that said he was "under consideration" for Rick Flagg Sr.
“I don’t know anything about that,” said the four-time Oscar-nominated thespian, via ScreenRant. “Joel mentioned that there was something he wanted me to look at, or think about doing, but I don’t know if that was it or not.” So, perhaps the "rumor" sprouted from Joel Kinnaman pursuing Harris to play his supervillain character's father in the hotly-anticipated DC Comics adpatation.

Anyhow, later during the Run All Night press junket, Kinnaman had talked more about his role in Suicide Squad, and praised writer/director David Ayer. “I love the script,” said the Robocop star. “It’s super entertaining and David Ayer is a really interesting director. You know there’s a lot of flashy directors who are good with the camera, but when you get people who are from another aspect of filmmaking into a director’s role, you’re always very happy if it’s a writer or an editor, because those are the storytellers, and David is really a storyteller… Even though this is a massive superhero production it’s an amazing story.” He continued, “The conversations we’ve had about the characters are really interesting, and he really gets to the bottom of things. Sometimes you’re worried, if you’re going to do a film like that, that it’s just going to be superhero fun but nothing’s going to go under the surface. But here I feel like we can get both.” What do you think?

Directed by David Ayer from his script, Suicide Squad stars Will Smith (Deadshot), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Jared Leto (the Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), with Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), and Jessie Eisenberg (Lex Luthor). The film opens August 5, 2016!

I kinda need this to happen.

My favourite actor of all time in a CBM based on some of my favourite comic-book characters.

What's not to love? :D

So Suicide Squad seems to be a lot more character focused than I thought. As long as Deadshot has his death wish attitude, I'll be down.

And Ed Harris is working with Jonathan Nolan on the HBO series Westworld, so the WB ties/connection is there.

@Doopie he shoulda won for The Truman Show. I'd add Apollo 13 but losing to Spacey is nothing to be ashamed about.

Hell I'd give him an Oscar just for The Rock ;)

Easily Bay's best. And one of Connery's last good movies. Finding Forrester, IMHO, was his last.

Agree on it being Bay's best. The Bad Boys movies are good and Transformers 1 was good, but The Rock was his best movie as a whole.

As someone who's not a Bay fan and critical of his movies, I thoroughly enjoyed this breakdown of "Bayhem" showing how despite his movies' narrative problems, his still an extremely talented director. He does certain shots with ease that most directors struggle imitating and pulling of themselves.

And Finding Forrester was very good.

I'd love him to be Sam Lane, hell, bulk aside, I'd love him to play an old The Dark Knight Returns or even Batman Beyond Bruce Wayne; he's got the presence and intensity already as it is.

I can't and won't defend the Transformer movies, but I will stand by my words in that Bay knows cinematography and action
