MTV's Josh Horowitz recently sat down to talk to Suicide Squad star Jai Courtney for his "Happy Sad Confused!" podcast (via Batman-News) and the host was quick to ask the actor about whether or not he was surprised by the negative response to the movie from fans and critics alike. Saying he stops listening if things get "too noisy," the actor went on to express his desire to still return to the franchise.

"How do you please everyone? And I don't think Suicide Squad ever intended to.... So no one's setting out to upset the fan base, certainly not a fan base that can be as loyal as this kind of crowd can. But I don't know how you can push the envelope or try and protect something [without taking risks].....I know what I like in a movie, and it's not the same thing as my twelve-year-old niece....It's a challenge, and David [Ayer] did an incredible job, and I sure as hell hope we get to make another one with him."

Asked to weigh in on the whole Marvel vs. DC argument, Courtney explained the differences between the two companies and what they're attempting to achieve with their movies. "They’ve had the time to let that shit marinate. Everything’s established now, we don’t have to figure out who anyone is. It’s like ‘Cool. Get them all together and let’s have a f*cking orgy and make a billion dollars.'"

That's certainly a pretty interesting perspective on the differences between the two companies, but the conversation soon returned to the DC Films Universe and whether or not we might see Courtney reprise the role of Captain Boomerang in The Flash movie. "Is that the rumor?" he asked. "I like that rumor. I like that a lot." It seems like we'll just have to wait and see then, but fingers crossed!

I feel like I need to put a fallacy to bed.

Suicide Squad did not fail because of studio interference.

It failed because it has a feeble lack of plot. The whole thing revolves around Waller putting a team of criminals together to fix a calamity caused by Waller's triggering of the Enchantress.

None of it would happen without Waller meddling where she doesn't belong. This contrived plot is not interesting enough to drive a film.

At the end she realises that using criminals to stop a magical calamity that she herself caused is a terrible idea, and she talks to Wayne about starting a team of heroes, which they should have done in the first place. The ending actually disqualifies a sequel, which makes it the world's stupidest ending.

@TheFamousJMC - Don't get me wrong, i agree with most of what you're saying, the film sucked big time. But it's made more than Winter Soldier which was amazing, so is it a failure?

@TheFamousJMC - To be fair, the Squad was already in the works pre-Enchantress escape. She was even supposed to be a member.

If anything the "success" of the first Task Force X mission proves Waller right, and her little sideshow experiment will likely be continued, albeit under more scrutiny. Therefore, a sequel is possible (and box office means highly likely)

And while I do want a sequel, give Ayer/WB a chance to right some wrongs, steady the ship, I would prefer a more claustrophobic story, less about world ending magic and more black ops/don't get caught/blame the bad guys etc.

And a mission plan that caters to the individual talents of the members, making them actually valuable to the story. Like we all knew Slipknot was going to bite the bullet, but had their mission involved his rope skills to complete then we may have been slightly more invested in his character...

@TheFamousJMC - Yeah...it's a failure. Millions upon millions if people loved the film, it's making tons of money, and it has amazing legs at the box office from great word of mouth. But yeah, TOTAL FAILURE...
