Latest SUICIDE SQUAD BTS Pic Teases A Hot New Weapon

Director David Ayer continues to tease the pre-production process for his adaptation of DC's Suicide Squad. We already knew these guys were gonna be packing a lot of fire-power, but you can probably go ahead and add a flamethrower to one of the characters' arsenals!

David Ayer previously posted a pic of Deadshot's "tools" to his Twitter, and he's followed it up with this image of a flamethrower test. It's safe to say someone will be wielding this as a particularly lethal weapon, but it doesn't really seem like Deadshot's style. Captain Boomerang perhaps? Harley? Maybe it'll be one of the characters the team finds itself going up against in the movie. Who do we know in the DCU that uses a flamethrower?? Whatever the case may be, these behind-the-scenes snaps provide an interesting insight into pre-production on Suicide Squad, which is set to begin shooting in Toronto in April. Ayer also posted a couple of concept photos, using models to plan the shots.

I dunno...I can't get excited about this movie. There is so much coming out in 2016, that this just falls by the wayside for me. It just doesn't compare to Civil War, BvS, Apocalypse...and not anywhere close to Deadpool.

This and Gambit seem to be at about the same place on my anticipation list.

D'you know what's odd? The thing I'm most looking forward to from the production of this movie is seeing the Joker. Nobody else seems to care about that.

I'm definitely looking forward to this, but mostly out of curiosity. I think this is, in many ways, going to be DC's GotG. It's a rogue team, ensemble cast, action/heist, and most importantly -- very little is known, or more importantly, expected of it by general audiences.

Throughout Suicide Squad's run, it has taken many shapes and tones with roster and story. That makes it hard to nail down a "definitive" take on it. They've got a few decades worth of material to pull from and the general public doesn't know shit about them. They'll latch onto the stars and the involvement of Harley and Joker.

Bigger comic book names like Batman, Superman, Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, etc, all carry rock solid expectations. EVERYBODY knows at least a little about them. But not Suicide Squad.

With the vast array of versions of the Squad to draw inspiration from, and lack of general expectations, they can go anywhere they want with it and I'm very curious to see where they take it. Beyond BvS, this movie is really going to set the tone for the DCCU.

@Doopie
While I've got you actually, are there any plans for putting any more OAU stuff up? I know the concept's dead in the water, I just wondered 'cause I saw a little bit of the art you had done for the second ish of SS.

@Kingpin
I still hold the opinion that Ledger played a character but that character wasn't the Joker. I reckon Leto'll deliver a Joker like the one we've always seen in the comics rather than a brilliant character with the same design as the Joker.

@MarkCassidy Ayer actually said in a Twitter reply that those "tools" aren't Deadshot's, and that he gets the "really good stuff". Great article though! I wonder if this is a possible tease at a Firefly appearance...

Well, to me @Kingpin I'm happy that we'll be getting a more theatrical/psychotic version of the character. Heath's Joker was beyond superb for the realistic world Nolan was working with but with a more flexible DCCU I'm glad that we can see something more along the sides of Arkham Asylum. I want to see guards down on the ground from deadly laughing gas, chatter teeth, creepy/comical fun houses, Harley and Joker insane loving and jokes on the big Bat. I'm just glad that they're finally giving us a new Joker.
