When Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opened to mostly negative reviews, Warner Bros. panicked and decided to drop the darkness and convoluted mythology for a lighter approach. That's understandable, but the decision also resulted in two cobbled together movies with conflicting creative visions in the form of Suicide Squad and Justice League.
A massive fan-campaign ultimately saw the four-hour cut of Zack Snyder's Justice League arrive on HBO Max last March. However, while #ReleaseTheSnyderCut paid off, there's no indication that will be the case for #RestoreTheAyerCut.
The vocal support for David Ayer's original vision of Suicide Squad to be shared with the world is still there, though, and a clip from the movie has now surfaced on social media. As you can see, The Joker is far less welcoming of Harley Quinn when she boards that helicopter and makes it clear to his sidekick that they're going to be having a serious talk now he's rescued her from Task Force X.
This is quite the departure to Suicide Squad's theatrical cut, which saw The Joker embark on a quest to get Harley back out of a sense of twisted love (despite leaving her to be captured by Batman).
Since this movie was released in 2016, we've had a reboot from James Gunn - The Suicide Squad - and a spinoff TV series on HBO Max, Peacemaker. Another character from that movie is expected to receive their own show, so Warner Bros. is clearly moving on from Ayer's vision, and that alone likely closes the door on them ever deciding to #ReleaseTheAyerCut.
