SUICIDE SQUAD Director David Ayer Believes That The Joker Should Have Been Main Bad Guy

David Ayer, the director of Suicide Squad, now says that he regrets not making Jared Leto's Joker the main villain of the movie, or at the very least giving him some more screen time. Take a look...

Although 2016's Suicide Squad wasn't loved by critics (or fans for the most part), it still grossed an impressive $745 million even with a roster of b-list villains. One of the biggest letdowns of the film was Cara Delevigne's Enchantress as the main antagonist, and director David Ayer has now
admitted that he'd rather The Joker took that role.

During a Twitter conversation, Ayer states that he "agonizes" over the fact that The Clown Prince of Crime wasn't featured as the movie's big bad.

"It was better than BVS. Joker should have been the Villian. Throw in Riddler like Assault on Arkham from the Animated Universe." one Twitter user says.

Ayer responds with, "Believe me. I agonize over this. Yes. Joker should have been main bad guy."

There's no doubt that Ayer regrets a lot of things that went down with Suicide Squad, but his relationship with DC is not over yet, as he has Gotham City Sirens in development.

Or he could've made a better movie.

@Yaf - Part of the reason the movie is bad is that it tries to have the big set piece at the end like it was Justice League or Avengers movie which is not.
There are quite a lot of issues besides that like watering down the relationship between the Joker and Harley (which in the cartoon wasn't merely kinky/weird but outright abusive).

I don't think THAT joker being the main villain would have improved anything, imo.

If this Joker didn't suck so much I would've posted a "No shit, Sherlock" gif.

Or anyone other than the supernatural bullshit we got. The Suicide Squad is a black ops team; stopping magical blue lights from opening sky portals is not their dealio.

He was not the director of the movie? Is not it Warner who always makes the speech that they make director-driven movies?

@marccampos - I’ve honestly grown to really hate the term “filmmaker-driven”. Terms like that and “auteur” are just fingernails on a [frick]ing chalkboard for me at this point.

And THIS is why they fail so spectacularly. They manage to create the WORST character performance in CBM history, possibly in the history of cinema, and somehow now they think that they needed MORE Joker. This is the dumbest thing ever said on CBM.

I agree going after the Joker makes more sense than the Suicide Squad going after pretty much a goddess.

I personally think the Suicide Squad should be more a dirty secret the U.S. uses to overthrow rogue countries and the like.

My reaction whenever Suicide Squad / Jared Leto / David Ayer comes up.
