The David Ayer Cut Of SUICIDE SQUAD Can Count Joel Kinnaman Among Its Many Supporters

With fans rallying and beating the odds to secure a release for Zack Snyder's original vision for Justice League, talk of a David Ayer cut of 2016's Suicide Squad movie just will not go away.

In the wake of Zack Snyder getting the chance to release his vision for Justice League, there has been an outcry of support for disparaged director David Ayer and his original plans for Suicide Squad. Snyder and Joker actor Jared Leto have previously voiced their interest in seeing an "Ayer cut" released, and now, you can count Rick Flag actor Joel Kinnaman among their ranks.

Appearing on The Playlist Podcast to promote his upcoming film, Brothers by Blood, Kinnaman shared his thoughts on studio interference and Ayer's original plans for Joker.

"You always wanna see the filmmaker's cut, you know? It's always a shame when the filmmaker's vision doesn't make it to the cinema.  Of course, there's always going to be compromise. I find it's the bigger the budget, the bigger the compromise. Usually, that's the case."

"I'm sure [Ayer's cut] would be much more interesting. David's take on the Joker was really interesting and that didn't really come out in the movie that we saw."

Unless things chance, it's unlikely that WB would commit to an Ayer Cut release for Suicide Squad. There's already a sequel from James Gunn in the works that's set for a simultaneous cinema/HBO Max release on August 6, 2021, along with a spinoff for John Cena's Peacemaker character that's also coming in 2021. Whereas Justice League appears to have hit a dead-end, the studio has big plans for Task Force X and likely don't want to muddy the waters by revisiting a past failure.

No thanks. I'll wait for Gunn's to wash the bad Ayer taste out of my mouth.

He filmed the movie on a first draft and we would still have wannabe gangsta joker and popping and locking enchantress.

Also yeah they could cgi over the weird monsters with parademons (although that wouldnt change their actions, nothing parademon like about them) but cant change the ending to the original plan.

Want a good Suicide Squad, just watch Assault On Arkham or Hell To Pay. For one thing they let the Squad be villains, not (best way i can put it) mercenaries with hearts of gold
