THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn Debunks Some Big Rumors About Plans For DC FanDome Event

The "r/DCEULeaks" subreddit is often a great source of information, but there are some fans who can't help but troll people with fake "scoops." Recently, some information was shared on there detailing some of Warner Bros.' plans for DC FanDome, including the announcement that Ben Affleck is returning as Batman on HBO Max and the first trailer for The Suicide Squad

Some of it was easier to believe than others, but there were a lot of big announcements for an event many fans believe will just feature some Zoom-style recordings of cast and crew talking about these upcoming projects with just the odd bit of concept art or minor announcement.

Regardless, The Suicide Squad writer and director James Gunn chose to respond to the post on Twitter saying, "Sorry to hamper anyone's excitement, but this isn't real." A fan then asked the filmmaker if the entire thing is fake, to which he responded: "I don't know. Some of it could be right in a blindfolded-hitting-the-dartboard way. But it seems to be made up."

If nothing else, the big takeaway from this is likely that there won't be a big trailer/team reveal for The Suicide Squad, as that's something Gunn would obviously know for a fact at this stage.

Check out the filmmaker's DC FanDome Tweets below:

Did anyone actually think Affleck was coming back.....he is an alcoholic, like if you want to hand him a franchise at least wait till he is a year sober.

He wasn't fired, he chose to leave for his health.

We already have a Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Like if Batman Beyond happens, yeah we would be two different Batmen.

@dracula - Affleck’s not an alcoholic, he’s been sober for a good while now and has like 5 movies coming soon

@tmp3 - good for him, although if it was during his time as batman that he fell off the wagon, best for him to stay away

@dracula - Dude, he didn’t relapse into alcoholism because of Batman... addiction’s a pretty serious thing for anyone to grapple with.

@JoJo1982 - yeah, and if he falls off the wagon every few years and did so during his time as batman, is it really a good idea to trust him with their biggest character. Like RDJ has his thing under control, but do you think disney would have taken the chance if they had owned marvel back then, and if IRon Man was as big as he is now

Yeah..some of it was like "okay, seems fair" like the casting and shit. The batman trailer seemed a bit to early, but if they really wanted to make a pop a teaser wouldn't be completely out of the question. Then I see "Ben Affleck returning for HBOMax project" and I'm like "okay I'm done"

These Batfleck fans need closure, and to move on. It's so obvious that Affleck has. Hopefully Matt Reeves can be a little more interactive with the fans, and generate some new excitement.

@WAKANDABATMANFOREVER - I have no excitement to the patinson version, seems like a step back from affleck's.

Yeah the whole Affleck thing and the Ayer cut give it away as fake. No need for conformation.

Snyder fans clamoring for Affleck to ruin his life again just so they can get 6 more hours of him struggling to play Batman

Absolutely shocked that the Snyder Cut was never going to be enough for these guys

Who says Gunn knows what he is talking about? It's not like he's some kind of insider or anything? LOL

I am really impressed with how we know so little about his upcoming flick and while I want to know more, I'm okay with it too.

Ben Affleck coming back? Yeah sure. I do wish we had gotten more of his Batman, and I guess we will through the Snyder Cut. I would not have chosen an older Batman to begin with, but I think he still could have been awesome with a better script and not being quite so sure that Superman needed to die. Then his complete about face by the end of BvS and JL would not have been so jarring. I may be misquoting a little, but being set to kill this dangerous alien to "Superman was a beacon of hope I could never be," was too much for me.
