THE SUICIDE SQUAD Star Margot Robbie Weighs In On Warner Bros.' Plans To Move 2021 Slate To HBO Max

Like the rest of Warner Bros.' 2021 slate, The Suicide Squad is heading to HBO Max next year. Harley Quinn actress, Margot Robbie, has some thoughts on that, and it doesn't appear she's fully on board!

WarnerMedia recently made the difficult decision to release Warner Bros.' entire 2021 theatrical slate in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time. Realizing that next year is likely another write-off, the company is clearly looking to recoup its losses through the newly launched streaming platform.

There's been a sizeable amount of backlash aimed at Warner Bros. from filmmakers like Christopher Nolan (Tenet) and Denis Villeneuve (Dune), and The Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie is now sharing her take on this touchy subject.

Choosing her words carefully, the Harley Quinn actress tells The Hollywood Reporter that her main hope is that the studio will do right by the people who make it what it is.

"We know there are people at Warner Bros. whom we have brilliant relationships with that are very talent-friendly and are responsible for the incredible reputation Warner Bros. has had over the past decades as the predominant talent-forward studio," Robbie says. "We are hopeful that this will work itself out and that Warner Bros. will do right by its storytellers."

"All we can do is come back to, 'Why are we doing this in the first place?' If we were money-oriented people, we'd probably be working in a different industry," the wealthy star of Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey continued. "For us, it's the excitement of telling stories and being on sets and giving people a platform, and stuff like [the Warner Bros. news] doesn't change that."

How much attention Warner Bros. will pay to any of these comments is hard to predict, but it's doubtful they'll change course as they're so far only dealing with a relatively vocal minority.

@Franshu - Wouldn't say a low blow, but the contributor needs to learn the difference between a news article and an opinion piece.

@soberchimera - Journalistic integrity aren't words that would describe a lot of articles around here tbh. I don't mind the call out as long as someone has the guts to say it to their face, which I doubt they would.

@soberchimera - That's the MO for Josh...I mean Ruby around here. It's obvious that Ruby is in fact him though. I'm not a fan of his and I've called Nate out on him before and then when he got wind he was all butt hurt and got super defensive.

Well that's not really true. Because when you joined the industry, it was a great money-spinner...

@bobevanz

The Russo Bros just accepted 50 mil from Saudi Arabia for a minority stake in their production company. It is ALL about the money.

I get people being upset over the uncertainty of movie theaters. They’ve always been a big part of my life and I love the experience. What I don’t get is people on this site being upset about WB’s move to streaming. It’s probably the most consumer friendly thing they could do.

Disney is practically doing the same thing (to a lesser extent than WB) but their Investors Call was straight up a reminder to movie theaters that they’re only a middle man.

They’re even restructuring contracts (like WB) so if they have a movie that moves under D+, they’ll be compensated for it.

Oh please. It's always about money. Yeah, WB [frick]ed up but Hollywood is also mad because they know the checks aren't going to be as big with movies going to streaming.

@E4Nigma -Like you said it ain't about the art. These people should be pleased with their movies being seen in the first place. They're only complaning because they aren't going to get box office receipts.

Exactly. Look at Gal Gadot for instance. She was going to be mad if WB
didn't pay her $10 million for WW84.

@E4Nigma - they always want the pockets heavy. Idk why they just don’t admit it. People aren’t stupid.

It hasn’t been about the art since college drama club or that short stint on Broadway LOL

Lol. For real. Just be honest. If it wasn't about the blockbuster money then most of Hollywood people would be doing indie films.

I've never seen so much goodwill vanish overnight from pretty much all corners as I have with this HBO Max stuff
