There's never been a massive demand for the "Ayer Cut" of Suicide Squad, but hints from the filmmaker have made it apparent that his version of the film was vastly different to what ended up in theaters.
In recent months, he's talked about Steppenwolf once being in league with Enchantress, and also confirmed that The Joker was meant to team up with the latter to take on Task Force X. Harley Quinn, meanwhile, was supposed to embark on a romantic relationship with Deadshot, so there is clearly a lot which didn't make it into the messy film we saw on the big screen back in 2016.
After the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign paid off with the planned 2021 release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, fans have started asking Warner Bros. to follow suit and #ReleaseThe AyerCut of Suicide Squad. It's not the most vocal campaign, but AT&T, the owners of WarnerMedia and HBO Max, have surprisingly chosen to respond.
This could just be an intern having fun, but it certainly sounds like something they will consider...one day. Much of what Ayer originally shot was finished, so editing the film and adding those scenes back in for a true "Director's Cut"of Suicide Squad on HBO Max might not be the worst idea!
