SUICIDE SQUAD Director David Ayer Expresses Excitement For James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD

Last night, James Gunn took to social media to reveal the full cast of The Suicide Squad. As well as a handful of names from the 2016 movie, there are a long list of new additions to the franchise and it definitely appears that this will be a sequel of sorts to the Oscar-winning DC Comics movie.

Regardless of whether it's a sequel, reboot, or a bit of both, Suicide Squad director David Ayer made it clear on Twitter last night that he's excited to see what Gunn does with Task Force X.

For a time, it appeared as if Ayer would return to the DC Extended Universe for Gotham City Sirens, a movie that would have put the spotlight on Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. That ultimately became Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), so it now seems like the filmmaker's time in this comic book world is at an end.

The filmmaker also jumped to the defence of Suicide Squad after one critic decided to tear into the first instalment following that cast announcement from Gunn about the follow-up.

How do you feel about Suicide Squad? Do you think the movie deserves to be forgotten when this reboot is released or were critics far too harsh? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Seems as if ‘Joker’ has pushed Mr. Ehlrich to a dangerous place.

I'm not sure who is the wrong party in that exchange. Can they just Thunderdome and no-man-exit it?

I like Ehrlich's writing, but he came off as way too aggressive here. I know the two of them aren't even this stand-offish normally; after Ehrlich gave Bright an F, Ayer tweeted back saying he loved the review & that he was gonna print it and put it on his fridge

Suicide Squad was awful. What did work in its favour was being released the same year as the also awful BvS, while being more inconsequential in its awfulness.

Still Ehrlich could have probably been a bit nicer here.

So this means that WB is trying to hang on to the old DCEU. This is a grave mistake. the time for WB/DC to course correct is coming close to irreversible. Continuing to build on terrible ideas and AGAIN trying to copy Marvel is just another Walter Hamada misstep. It is time for him to go!

F it, I think the first one gets way too much shit. It wasn't Daredevil bad. I enjoyed a good portion of it.

The cast was enjoyable and I t had a few good moments but it feels like it’s missing a second act.
Hopefully the sequel is much better.
I loved “Guardians 1” and really disliked the second so this could go either way for me.

I actually enjoyed David Ayer's Suicide Squad! I thought it was good! Better than what I expected! But Birds of Prey and james Gunn's Suicide Squad looks like trash! Everybody wanted more darker more grounded sequel now we are getting Guardian of the galaxy comedy with a rumored bat mite in the movie? Seriously?

David Ayer would have clearly made a darker more gritty sequel if they gave him a chance!! But the fans don't know what they want!
