We've seen some snippets of footage from The Suicide Squad as well as separate promo shots of the team members, but director James Gunn has now shared a first official look at his new incarnation of Task Force X together via a pair of Empire Magazine covers!

The covers feature (deep breath): Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman); Savant (Michael Rooker); Javelin (Flula Borg); Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie); Polka Dot Man (David Dastmalchian); Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchoir); Bloodsport (Idris Elba); King Shark (?); Mongal (Mayling Ng); The Thinker (Peter Capaldi); Blackguard (Pete Davidson); TDK (Nathan Fillion); Weasel (Sean Gunn); Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney); and The Peacemaker (John Cena).

Gunn also joins them for the second cover, which finds the team looking a lot more cheerful.

They make for an eclectic group, but as Gunn cautioned in the past, probably best not to get too attached to any of 'em!

While specific plot details for The Suicide Squad remain under wraps, various rumours have been doing the rounds online since before production even began. Nothing has been confirmed, but a recent BTS featurette did strongly hint that Starro might be one of the big bads.

The Suicide Squad is currently set for release next August.

All the characters on the right look like they’re part of the GOTG...uh, galaxy.

@SanFranLand -
What a horror show. Way too colorful and you can almost see the humor oozing from their pores. How dare Gunn squat down and take a dump on a property like this by injecting it with humor and color. I'll even bet that there are scenes filmed in broad daylight instead of the darkness that a project like this deserves.

The Nerve!

@Goldboink - Oh, by all means dump away on this! These characters are pretty obscure with a bent towards goofy.
All the guardians meeting was in daylight! Hahah. No, just like the bulkiness, the metals, the lit up highlights. Looks like Xandar, the girl looks like a crew member with Tazerface.

Coronavirus precludes a smaller box office than SS.
James Gunn precludes better reviews than SS.

@TheWalkingCuban -

I rather watch a well made movie with a small box office

than a mediocre, box office juggernaut like those made by Michael Bay, hack snyder and similar

I think if Margo Robbie want another Harley Movie she should ask Gunn to do it. He's the best man for it and he already say she's the best actrice who he worked with.

I'm just so glad that Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn is finally dressing in what actually looks like a Harley Quinn's outfit.
And I get that she wouldn't be wearing the classic jester outfit in this, with them being on a black ops mission and all.
