Yesterday evening, we told you that Supergirl is rumoured to make an appearance in Superman: Legacy. However, despite DC Studios' co-CEO James Gunn - and the upcoming reboot's director - describing The Flash as the "greatest superhero movie ever made," Sasha Calle won't return as the Girl of Steel.
Instead, the plan is to recast the hero, further proof the DCU and DCEU are only connected by the smallest of threads.
Now, the moderators on r/DCEULeaks have followed up with additional details. DC Studios is reportedly looking for white actresses to play Supergirl, suggesting we'll see a blue-eyed, blonde-haired version of Kara Danvers more in line with her comic book counterpart.
The desired age range is said to be between 18-25, though someone on the younger end is preferred (Calle is 28). As for her Superman: Legacy role, it's only intended to be a cameo appearance and casting won't be finalised until Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow finds a director.
The Flash is one of the biggest flops in superhero movie history, so perhaps moving on from that is the right move. Calle's Supergirl died in the final act alongside Michael Keaton's Batman, so the fact she's essentially been written out of history means recasting the character can be explained.
Still, James' brother, Sean Gunn now has three roles in the DCU (Weasel, G.I. Robot, and Maxwell Lord), making it impossible to ignore the fact that the only DCEU actors who are being brought into the fold for this rebooted reality are the filmmaker's friends and family.
David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. Other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
It's recently been reported that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell is in the running for Jor-El, a rumour he hasn't debunked (Ma and Pa Kent are also expected to appear, though we don't know whether they're alive in the present day). Brainiac, meanwhile, is expected to serve as the reboot's big bad. With production set to begin early next year, we're hoping the final few cast members will be revealed imminently.
Superman: Legacy is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
