There are a lot of good and bad things about social media (it's leaning more towards the latter with Elon Musk now in charge of Twitter), but the rise of so-called movie "scoopers" has become a real pain.
With James Gunn and Peter Safran now in charge of DC Studios, there's a lot of excitement about what they have planned. The Suicide Squad director has said they will present their plan to Warner Bros. Discovery in the coming months, but we're seeing an increase in rumours about what that slate will eventually look like.
One site recently posted a story claiming that Henry Cavill has signed a new contract to appear in Superman across film and television projects, prompting Gunn to respond in an effort to set the record straight.
"I’m not sure if you’re purposely lying or being taken advantage of by someone lying to you, but, as I’ve stated on here before, NO ONE knows what’s happening at DC Studios right now other than me [and] Peter," the filmmaker confirmed. "That would include writing up any new contracts for anyone at this point."
Earlier this month, one of the trades reported that Cavill currently has no deal in place to return as Superman again after Black Adam. While there have been talks of a Man of Steel sequel, it will be down to Gunn and Safran to decide whether that's something they want to move forward with alongside the British actor.
We can't imagine either of them would be keen to kick off the DCU by earning the wrath of fans, something ditching Cavill would inevitably lead to. For now, though, it's obvious anything we hear about this franchise's future that doesn't come directly from Gunn and Safran is way off base.
What are your hopes for the DCU's future?
