Is Man Of Steel 2 In Trouble?

Is Man of Steel 2 being put on the back burner? If so how do you feel about it and what do you think DC and WB need to do with their film unverise?

Earlier this week rumors have been circulating that Man of Steel 2 will be postponed indefinitely. Reports have stated that DC wants to focus on the “Batfleck” trilogy after BvS and the JL films. I know that this is years down the road but I can’t stop thinking about it. If this is really the move being made by WB and DC it is wrong on so many different levels and I really hope these reports are just rumors. Superman is not only DC’s flagship superhero, but also THE flagship hero of the world. I could totally see this becoming a reality with WB; in their way of thinking that Batman is what the fans and public want and because he sells. I understand completely, but now it feels as if we are being beat over the head with Batman…there is a Gotham TV series, the Nolan trilogy just ended a few years ago, We have gotten three almost near perfect Batman video games and now Batman is already stealing Superman’s thunder after just one movie! Zack Snyder did a fine job in portraying a new relevant Superman, of course the movie wasn’t perfect…but how could this iconic hero be tossed around like this? I am not saying stop producing Batman films, games or TV shows but do the same thing for Superman. If DC puts out a Cyborg stand-alone film but will not make a MoS sequel, we are really in trouble. I am not going to make this a “What should DC do” article, (that will come next) but I want to see what the CBM fans think of this Man of Steel rumor.  Sound off!

Couldn't agree more. So much potential for great story with Superman. Hopefully these rumors are just rumors.

So many stories and adaptions that could be done for a sequel. There is so much history that they havent even come close to tapping into in the movie universe. I am extremely nervous for BvS and JL, I don't want low grade movies popping out every few years just to compete with Marvel.

I'm pissed at WB/DC for wanting to do another Batman trilogy even though we just got an AMAZING trilogy from one of the best directors ever

But I'm hoping the Batman trilogy doesn't push MOS 2. I was mixed on MOS (I sometimes go in-between mediocre and amazing) but I would love to see another film of Superman. Awesome, weird villains like Parasite and Mr.Mxyzptlk that would be cool to see on-screen.

I agree. MoS was a step in the right direction. and Yes. Stop putting a timeline on these Batman movies and just make them as we go.
Parasite would be an amazing villain for a MoS sequel, or metallo. DC should also be saving Doomsday for a JL movie and not be using him in BvS!

MoS needed to focus on more clark finding himself and less action action action. But DC and WB get very insecure about their movies and needed to throw all the action in our face after Superman Returns.

triple comment on my own post, sorry. But can we get a FRICKING Superman Animated Series please?!? If you aren't going to pursue a Superman video game ( I've already written an article on that) or a Superman TV Show, give us a animated series!!

No it's not. We have rumors but no facts. WB confirmed themselves they will do solo Superman and Batman films.

Yes but Man of Steel was very successful. It was also a good movie...yeah I know it had flaws but the positive outweighed the negative. I think it's ridiculous all these other characters are getting movies before a MOS sequel and yes Batman is once again overshadowing him. They are killing their own characters with other characters it just makes no sense. I'm really worried about their "vision" or lack of one. Hopefully once again these are all just rumors.

"Man Of Steel is the most successful reboot it made twice the money of Batman Begins and The Amazing Spider-Man look it up folks. " @Niklander

LOLZ no seriously. Are you even trying?

Man of Steel made $668 Million

Superman 1978 made $1,789,662,782 when adjusted for inflation. MOS an't even touch that on Batman and Wonder Woman's shoulders. Superman Returns (the crappy Brandon Routh film) made $701,079,408 when adjusting for inflation. That's MORE than Man Of Steel. Both of those films made more than the $668 Mill. So even within the Superman franchise the film can't match up.

Batman Forever (which is a reboot) made $996,409,358 when accounting for inflation.

I'll give Man of Steel SOME credit it made more than Thor: The Dark World, Fantastic Four, Thor, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

> be @Niklander
> says MOS is most successful reboot and mentions Batman Begins and TASM
> but forgets that TASM was better received by audience and made more money

Mentioning Batman Begins is kind of useless. That movie didn't find most of its audience until after it finished its theater run. I don't even remember that movie when it came out like at all.

I disagree. The trailer seemed to do a good job of explaining why Batman was in it. Hos intentions felt clear and felt logical after the events of Mos

These are just rumours. I hope that the following four films work as a trilogy for both Superman and Batman;

Man of Steel (SM1)
Batman v Superman (SM2 & BM1)
Justice League (SM3 & BM2)
The Batman (BM3)

At the same time we will be getting things like Suicide Squad and solo films about other characters. WB should then see where they are and either give us a Superman sequel, a Batman sequel, or both.

Batman also officially doesn't have any new solo mpvies yet

DC gets some criticism from fanboys for only focusing on Superman and Batman,
So this time they don't and are giving us Cyborg, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Flash and now there's trouble ahead?

We're going to get a Man of Steel 2 and more Batman movies.
Just not yet, which is great. Give other heroes a chance to establish themselves

Yeah I mean I'm not saying these reports are true by any means just pointing out that the rumors are very concerning! As a Superman fan born in the 90's there hasn't been much to look forward to for Supes fans...so when reports like this come out right after Superman is finding his footing...its a scary thing lol!

I also think that Superman: Birthright would have made a PERFECT Man of Steel. Perfect way to portray clark and how he's so close to everything living. Perfect way to set up Metropolis and a PERFECT way to set up Lex Luthor.

@Niklander

"But Batman Begins didn't find most of it's audience?? WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN??"

As critically received and successful it was, it didn't make Dark Knight money because the movie before that (Batman & Robin) hindered most of its audience. After all, this Batman Franchise went from make 370+ million to 1 billion in the sequel.

"If Batman Begins didn't find most of it's audience then how did the sequel happen?"

...Come on Nik. How do most movies get sequels? Batman Begins was critically loved and it made money. Not only that....It won Academy awards....AND ITS MOTHER[frick]ING BATMAN!

To the people who are implying that Man of Steel wasn't a successful reboot because Superman Returns and Superman 1 (1978) were more well received comparatively... keep in mind that the Donner franchise fizzled out after Superman II, so the fact that Man of Steel has spawned at least three films in a shared universe (with at least two more on the way that will include Superman) makes it a success.

Also, @Hulksta I don't know where you're getting $701,079,408 from, but I'm seeing $451,910,224.4, which more or less tracks with ticket price inflation between 2006 and 2013. Now none of this factors in differences due to IMAX or 3D ticket prices, so it doesn't work as an indication of how many people saw the movie, but Superman Returns most certainly did NOT make more than Man of Steel, comparatively.
