James McTeigue Wont Confirm Or Deny "Superman" Reboot

James McTeigue Wont Confirm Or Deny "Superman" Reboot

But he is hesitant about it when questioned! In an interview with slashfilm, the "V For Vendetta" director shoots down a couple of other rumored movies he's attached to, but not Supes!

In the interview McTeigue discusses certain other comic book movies he has been linked, including "Plastic Man," "X-Men Origins: Magneto," and a Superman reboot.

The Wachowski brothers wrote a script for a "Plastic Man" movie back before "The Matrix" made waves. But McTeigue says he doubts that will ever see the light of day...

“Obviously, Larry and Andy, did a script for Plastic Man back in the day. I’ll be very surprised if that movie gets made. We haven’t ever really talked about it. But I know it’s still a Joel [Silver] property or a Warner property…”

Next up, it was rumored that McTeigue was in talks to replace David Goyer on "X-Men Origins: Magneto." The IMDb page for the film even started listing McTeigue as “in talks” for the project. Nope!

“[Magneto] was just one of those rumors that started out and I don’t know where it came from or how it came up.”

But when asked about the big blue boyscout, the director is not as quick to deny that he may be helming a reboot!

This from slashfilm...

"Last week IESB reported a rumor that Warner Bros and DC Comics were in talks with Andy and Larry Wachowski to produce a Superman reboot directed by McTeigue. I asked James if there was any truth to the rumors whatsoever, and he laughed kinda nervously, and paused for a second, before giving me an interesting non answer:

“You know… I… I would say… I’ll keep you guessing, actually. It’s good not to dispel every rumor, right?”

James had been so forthcoming on previous questions, and quick to deny false rumors. I hate to read too much into his answer (or as it may be, his non-answer) but his hesitation seems to suggest there might be something to it. Maybe there have been some early talks, or possibly it is something the Wachowski Brothers are developing. But the non denial seems rather odd, especially coming off of denials on a handful of other rumored projects."

Is this hesitation just reluctance from McTeigue to deny all rumors? Or could he really be the man to get Supes in the air again?

@ LEEE, I agree on the Superman Vs Doomsday, but as we all know, a reboot wouldn't be bringin back Reeves rip-off Routh. Thank the good lord!

His reaction is pretty much "I REALLY want to do it but don't want to screw up, I'm sooo close to actually getting it..." lol

Well, I just hope it's not this reboot nonsense and they just move forward with the story. Who wants to see the origins and Lex yet again?

I don't know about Snyder for Supes guys..i mean i think he's a great director but he's more of a sex and ultraviolence type guy. Sure he could tone it down, but i just think his temperament is wrong for Supes. TDKR yes!

WulfComicFan - 8/5/2009, 5:36 PM
I so think they just don't need the origin story, but by god they need the reboot, and Lex should be only a side character, kind of a minor irritant in the balm of Superman. But a reboot is an absolute must. I mean really how do you carry on from that crap Returns without killing the kid, recasting Lois, and and keeping Lex to a minumum? You can't that's how. My opinion anyways.

PLus they kinda made Supes a wussy-boy. He needs to not be afraid to kick some arse! As a matter of fact arse kicking in Superman is a must now!

Thats how to do the Justice League theme man! Have thier solo movies, then justice league movie introducing Doomsday, as he blasts through the JL then a Superman movie where he dies. Starts up a whole new series of movies. Then after the whole return thing bring in Darkseid.

Ozy im not denying his awesomeness. Im just saying that not all comic book movies are the same. He did great with 300 and Watchmen yes..but what do those 2 movies have in common that should not go near a Supes movie?? Ill give you a hint, it begins with a V and ends with iolence!

I want a Superman reboot and I want it now! Hopefully something good will come out of this news and it wont just be another dead-end! I would really like to see a Superman reboot start filming by early 2011 so we can see the actor who would be playing Superman in his cameo in Green Lantern. That would be great!

Zach Snyder is great. He takes comic book movies seriously and 300 and Watchmen were great!

Also the gorgeous Elisha Cuthbert for Supergirl!

I read the Plastic Man script by the Wachowskis and it was surprisingly great. I never really dug Plastic Man at all, but the story they had was interesting and the ideas they had for special effects sounded really cool.

Like I said, not a Plastic Man fan, but I'd rather see that script turned into a movie than half the comic book stuff that's gonna be coming out in the next couple years...

If they reboot, just the origins will take a good chunk out of running time. And then how do you deal with Lex? How can you make Lex a minor character from the very beginning of the story? They could do it, but it's not right. They would have to spend a whole lot of time on Lex as well.

I don't see a need for rebooting at all, it's been done already, and well. No need to fix what ain't broken.

About continuing, they can easily kill of the kid and replace Lois, just like Nolan did w/ Rachel's character. That's all there is to it, simple.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 8/5/2009, 6:43 PM
I don't think they would be dumb enough to completely reboot it, Lex, origins and all. I reckon even if Routh doesn't come back they will loosely follow on from Returns. Minus the kid and all that crap.

Supermike - 8/5/2009, 6:43 PM

they could just make lex like in superman the animated series, where he appears frequently but isn't the main villain.
