Joe Quesada Disappointed By MAN OF STEEL; Says That The Film Left Him "Angry"

During his chat with Kevin Smith on the Fatman on Batman podcast, Marvel Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada expressed his dissapointment in Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel claiming that he felt that "Zod was the hero of the movie". Read on for more...

“As a comic book fan, I wanted to love that movie so much,”
said Quesada. “I wanted to love it so much, and I didn’t love it so much. Again, there are little things here and there that you could pick at and things like that, but I just think at the end of the day, Zod was the hero of the movie to me.” A very interersting statement indeed. The fact that he sees Zod as a hero in this film more than Superman himself is a very bold statement to make since Superman here is suppose to be the hero.

He added, “He wanted to save his race, and Superman didn’t let him." Quesada talks about what impressed him the most about Zod as a viallin, “Zod, in this particular incarnation, struck me as not necessarily an evil man, but a man of…he had a particular…he had his orders, he had a mission. He was a zealot of sorts, but he was a zealot…again, correct me if I’m wrong… but he didn’t say, ‘I want to rebuild Krypton, and then come back and destroy this little planet. All I want is to rebuild this planet. And the only reason I’m blowing everything to bits here is because you’ve got what I want, and you’re not giving it to me. So please, give me my people, and I’ll leave.”

Joe described his feelings after watching the film, “I was in the mood to watch that Superman movie, and afterwards I was just angry,” said Quesada. What do you guys think? Do you feel that Quesada has a point here? Leave your thoughts down below.

I did like Zod's characterization in this. He felt like Quesada said, a bit of a hero. The thing was that he was willing to kill humans, and that was the bad thing that Superman wasn't letting him do. Joe is confusing me.

MoS fans seem to think they are some supreme master race simply because they liked the film a lot of people hated.

In all fairness, One More Day left me angry.

With that said, MOS sucked.

Out of all the complaints I have heard that I don't personally consider valid, but understand it, this one is just weird.

He was gonna destroy the human race, Superman was the hero. Smh

Yeah, what a hero, saving his race by sacrificing another. Like Clark said, Krypton had it's chance. Doesn't Cav-El still have the codex on his DNA, anyway?
Can't wait for the 10+ pages of the usual shit-flinging.

I'm guessing Quesada and people probably hated Superman because of his "Krypton had its chance" line which came across as heartless.

I remember when MoS [frick]tards hated the hell out of Waid, the man responsible for Birthright and Kingdom Come, for hating MoS and ironically enough, these same people who champion Goyer as a great writer will take quotes from MoS (mostly the Jor-El ones) as evidence for Goyer's "supreme" writing when in reality Goyer actually borrowed those lines from Waid and Morrison and MoS was heavily inspired by Birthright! HAHA!

I mean, if Joe said something like he hated the pacing, or felt Supes was a bit off, I could understand. That's not to say I agree, but I would at least understand. But Zod a hero? Even though he was going to destroy the entire human race?
Abary
Abary - 4/27/2014, 10:59 AM
How the hell is Supes the bad guy? Was he paying any attention to the movie?! Zod wanted to wipe out the human race just to [frick]ing bring back Krypton! Supes is bad for trying to save the humans? BOOOO

@Heisenberg

Zod is what I'd call a character with some depth but a terrible villain.

Again, I'm presuming people only viewed Superman as the villain because "Krypton had its chance" came across as heartless and cold.

I hated on Waid alright, not for hating on MOS, but for being such a crybaby bitch. Specially over Zod's death.
That doesn't take away from his work, nor should it.

One question: why couldn't Zod just take some of Kal's blood and go terraform on another planet?
MrBatmor
MrBatmor - 4/27/2014, 11:03 AM
@abary zod was designed to protect krypton... He was made like that...

Superman had all the choice... Like telling zod to go to kupit out something...but he didn't...(you might want to stop reading at this point...:P)

Btw I am just kidding... My only problem was Lois lane... She was unnecessary...

I did not like Man of Steel. The Krypton scenes were the only good thing about it. That and Zod.

"One question: why couldn't Zod just take some of Kal's blood and go terraform on another planet?"

Because David Goyer said so;)
