Ben Affleck is Chris Nolan's Top Choice For Superman Reboot

Ben Affleck is Chris Nolan's Top Choice For Superman Reboot

Say what?!? Deadline claims Nolan offered Superman directing gig to Ben "How ya like 'dem apples?" Affleck!

From Deadline's box office round-up:

3. The Town (Warner Bros) Week 3 [2,935 Theaters]
Friday $3.1M, Saturday $4.2M, Weekend $9.8M, Estimated Cume $64.1M

A very strong -35% hold going into its 3rd week in release bodes well for Ben Affleck's future as a director. And Warner Bros just offered him Superman to helm on Chris Nolan's suggestion. (But Affleck likely will turn it down.)

Personally I'd prefer someone who has some experience at directing fantasy epics, but if Affleck was hired, I'd be interested in seeing what he could do.

Just please God don't let him give Superman a Boston accent.

This is old news. According to Heat Vision, he already turned it down more than a week ago.

I like it. I really think Affleck could Give Supes a Gritty Feel but yet Still make him Heroic and Fun. Do it Ben!!

Well there is one thing that is very obvious, he is a much better director than an actor. That being said. I'm not sure how he would do with superman. I have heard that he does lke the comic books. And maybe with Nolan babysitting him it might work. I tell you what all he would have to do is make a great superman movie (which hasn't been done since the first one) and he would have a great new career. And than we wouldn't have to be tortured with his acting anymore. Well to be honest, I haven't seen his latest movie yet. And I have heard very good reviews. But one good acting job doesn't make up for so many bad ones.

Zack Synder all the way..but I think this would be an interesting challenge for Affleck.....He makes a better Director than a full fledge actor, He's good but great

saw the town and it was a good film and im ok with him doing the film if he says yes to it. hes a good director and shows that he knows how to make his actor understand it to make them feel real.

I wonder what J-Lo thinks of all this Affleck hype after she ruined his acting career?

@Superguy1591 I hope that's a huge possibility. It would be awesome to see Hamm as Superman! Sure he's a little old, but I think seeing an older Superman would be pretty cool.

@dnno1
You're right. Superherohype.com had Affleck reported as passing on this.

@R3Animator
Not all of us want Nolan to direct it. he did a good job on the Batman movies because of his "keeping it realistic" views. He would be good to direct the mundane scenes, but get someone else for the action sequences. They were the only week points, IMO, in TDK and Inception. Well that and Batmans costume is horrible.

I'll second what CBArtist said. Not every fan wants to see Nolan direct this movie.

I'll also go a step further. Not everyone wants to see him involved in it at all. Some of us simply don't like the way he takes the 'comic book-ness' out of comic book characters.

I agree with ya man; I don't like how he 'ruined' Joker in a lot of ways, I still like the way Heath portrayed him, well his performance was incredible, but Nolan's writing there.... grr. So many things to gripe on. And the writing too with Batman himself in Dark Knight. Still.. great film. But he further lost some faith of mine with Inception.
@CBArtist
Yeah Batman's costume is horrible.

But yeah I think Affleck could do a good job with this. I don't really care who directs it at this point, just that there's a great script (FINALLY!!!) and there's a director who believes in that script and wants to give it the proper and artistic life.

I am extremely suprised at everyone's desire to see what Affleck can do. I'd love to see how this would turn out, but not enough to trust him with it lol.

I'd like to see someone with more experience do it. Someone who understands the character. And as the biggest Snyder fan, i don't think he's right for this. He focuses on visuals, which is why i love his work, but not for this.

And i actually kind of agree that Nolan would ruin Superman. You can't make it realistic and keep it Superman. Batman was able to be made real because it's a dark story and it's just a billionaire buying gadgets. Superman has to be beyond belief.

saw The Town friday night. good movie. affleck is the perfect choice. he has friend, kevin smith to go to for advice, and i think people are really underestimating nolan's role. i think the combo of affleck and nolan will be perfect. don't forget affleck kinda played Superman in Hollywoodland. All signs that he should do it.

I like the idea of him goin to Kevin Smith. I wish directors wouldn't be such glory hogs and collabortate. We saw what happened with Sin City. I wouldn't trust either one of them for this project, but together they could do it.

We need a great director and one who really understands the character. MOre duel directors for CBMs would be sweet

@Draximos how in hell did Nolan "ruin" the Joker?! He brought the character up a notch. That's not ruining it. You should be thanking him we didn't see another Nicholson, but this time going up against Bale's batman.

If Nolan and Ben do this just change it to "Luther" and have Superman be supporting cast. That way he can film it much like batman very dark and have that real feel to it. But what eve I still watch anything that comes out.

i disagree @ajax..star trek was a hit...it made headlines everywhere and i know J.J ABRAMS can really pull it off with the MAN OF STEEL.... look lets b realistic....if NOLAN had any fate in Supes....he will direct it himself...but he dosnt... he would prefer sumone else to direct so wen it finally hits the screens n fans hate it...d director takes most of the heat as wl as warner...SUPERMAN is like CAPTAIN AMERICA...they are ICONS....its kinda hard to pull off successful movies for these characters but sincerely speaking whats going on wit captain AMERICA now...i hav high hopes of this movie bin a big hit all over the world...as long as joe johnston keeps his head down n directs an epic movie...the cast is fantastic so its the directing that needs to b perfect....SUPERMAN RETURNS was a bit ok by my standards but the cast just didnt do well n the directing was crappy....but Brandon ROUTH did great as the new superman...if only Singer hadnt made him behave like REEVES....SPACEY played lex pretty well...but the major letdown was the lois lane character...kate BOSWORTH wasnt the perfect choice for lois lane...she didnt have the hair...the looks or the typical loud mouth lois we all love and right now erica DURANCE from SMALLVILLE is definitely playing lois lane to the fullest...she is really pulling it off...her acting is great and she does have the looks and the hot body...SMALLVILLE is an imitation of the life of clark KENT before he becomes the iconic MAN OF STEEL...n frankly i know a lot of people dont like WELLING but he is doing a good job of playing the SUPES...he has acted the role for TEN SOLID YEARS...its fantastic the show lasted this long and warner kept it going because...heck everbody loves the MAN OF STEEL...he might b ready to eventually step into the shoes and play superman but it depends if he can really pull it off and get the audience and love of the worldwide fans...SUPERMAN IS MY ICON and i dont want another shitty actor to mess him up again on the BIG SCREEN....so please WARNER...make the right choice this time...if its WELLING...fine with me...if its sumone else...lets pray he can ACT....oh yea...this is my first major post so please ladies and gentlemen...fill free to comment...FOR or AGAINST...your choice peeps...

@RockNRollCC - Nicholson was the Joker. Ledger was a common thug wearing make-up. No one should be "thanking" Nolan for taking the comic book out of comic book characters.
