With “Smallville’s” final episode only days away, we are finally getting to see the ultimate sacrifice Kal-El will have to make in order to take to the sky’s as the Man of Steel.
The latest episode, entitled “Prophecy” shows strong comparisons to, arguably, the best of the Superman movies. In Superman II, Kal-El’s love for Lois Lane overshadowed his need to be the worlds greatest protector thus he made the ultimate sacrifice by asking Jor-El to take his powers away and commit solely to the identity of Clark Kent.

I can imagine that the finale is going to be extremely similar. What we have been shown in “Dominion” and “Prophecy” is that Lois will choose Clark over Mankind every time she is tested. She will now have to take heed to Jor-El’s advice to Kara by “sacrificing the thing she holds most dear”, in order to allow Clark to embrace his destiny as the Man of Steel. Although Clark has not made the conscious choice to become human, we now see that Oliver, under the spell of Darkseid, has dug up what appears to be Gold Kryptonite. Gold Kryptonite causes injuries that cannot be fully healed by Clark's solar-powered healing factor, thus could lead to extreme weakeness and ultimatly to his death.
Clark has now (once again) turned his back on Jor-El, is going through with his marriage to Lois, about to lose his powers, and about to face the strongest enemies he has seen since arriving on earth. (sound familiar)

If it comes down to this, who will save Kal-El? Maybe Lex has been correct all along. When Clark is ultimatly defeated and Darkseid begins taking over the planet, could Lex Luthor be the one to pick up Kal-El and return him to Jor-El? It is only a theory, but maybe they do share a destiny together.

Lookin' forward to it! Hoping for a full fledged, one-on-one battle with Darkseid, but we'll see what we get.

I HATE Jor! He's such a jerk! AND written way out of character. Kept hoping against hope the Smallville writers would reveal it's really the Eradicator that manipulating Clark and not Jor. GRR!
