I want to start by saying that this will reveal some serious spoilers so turn back now if you don’t like things like that. I have been looking forward to this for quite some time, and this episode did not disappoint.

At the party you really felt sorry for Chloe (Alison Mack), Clark(Tom Welling) didn’t show up, Lois (Erica Durance) and Oliver (Justin Hartley) bailed on her. Then the sexy Zatanna (Serinda Swan) shows up to grant the happy birthday girl one wish.

Chloe waking up as Lois was hilarious, as was the first scene at the Planet, when “Chlois” was worried about what to do when she got there, she seemed very out of sync. Erica pulled that off excellently.

I like how Zatanna offered Ollie one wish, a chance to correct a mistake, if he helped her get her book back. It showed that he was guilty about killing Lex. I love how they mentioned the whole Shadowcrest reference.

It was interesting that Chloe finally noted that Clark had a thing for Lois. It was funny when Chlois was trying to break it to Clark that she was “Lois”. When they confronted Zatanna about the “curse” Chloe was under. Once again it seemed that Chloe has a thing for Clark. And it seems that thanks to Zatanna’s “wish” Clark was once again affected with amnesia.

At the Planet Tom portrayed Clark as a cynic quite well. His disbelief in Chloe was quite hilarious. The scene with them on the roof when Clark said he is a “regular Green Arrow” She kept trying to prove his powers to him, and he keeps finding logic in them, then she tried to hit him with a shovel, I almost died laughing!

The Green Arrow heist was pretty cool. I was really surprised by the amount of stuff Lex had, I thought it would be a lot more. Zatanna saw right through his identity. He threatened to throw the book in the fire, Serinda really played her concern quite well. I loved that she actually said the spells backwards! I was worried that she would not be able to pronounce them correctly, so they’d be cut from the show. She was able to wrap Ollie in chains (kinky) as she left to help her dead father John Zatarra.

Brainwashed Clark seemed much more sure of himself. The ominous warning the antique shop owner gave wash quite ominous, a life for a life, very 5th season of them, fyi that’s when Clark brought Lana back from the dead and Jonathan Kent died instead. Chloe trying to convince Clark to jump, not fly sorry boys, to the top of the Planet was a very well delivered speech. I loved all of the references to the comics in this episode, Chloe telling Clark to get “up up and away” was amazing. Clark’s speech to Zatanna was quite heartbreaking, on paper, Tom delivered it without enough emotion, especially after Chloe was sucked into the portal of death, he acted like she just walked downstairs. I like the references to John Schneider’s portrayal and death of John Kent.

Clark and Chloe’s talk about the truth of life was necessary to in my opinion to close up some loose ends. Chloe made a Batman reference calling Lois and Clark the “dynamic duo”.

Zatanna apologizing to Ollie was pretty interesting, she gave him her number, so maybe we will be seeing more of her. The scene at the Planet with Lois once again put their relationship on hold, so we have to wait on that some more.

The end scene with Oliver and Chloe at the Isis Foundation was awesome. Her opening up the computer room created more suspense as to what would happen next. The computer voice confirming: “Aquaman online, Black Canary online, Cyborg online, Impulse online.” Oliver picking up the earpiece saying “Green Arrow online.” I was so stoked then Chloe puts on her headset “Watchtower online… lets get to work.” I was so happy it seems like we may see the Justice Leauge in the future, maybe with Zatanna and a repowered Martian Manhunter in there.

On to the cast.

Tom Welling was good, but this was not his best performance. I did like the mild mannered Clark Kent, it was kinda neat.

Allison Mack did a great performance even though she was not in it to much. She most likely was preparing for her directorial debut.

Erica Durance was amazing! She portrayed both roles excellently.

Justin Hartley was ok in this one. I find it hard to believe that a superhero like Green Arrow would trust someone enough to steal a book from a warehouse.

And last but not least, our guest of honor Serinda Swan. Her Zatanna was great. I can’t say enough about it. Hearing her enunciate those spell backwards was amazing. I for one hope we see much more of her in the future. And besides her great performance, she was HOOOOOTTTT!!!

Well that was my first review I hope you all enjoyed it. I give this episode of Smallville 9.5 Spellbooks out of a possible 10
