Review Opinion

I always compare any new DC Animated Original Movie to the best one that I've seen, that being 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies'. 'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' will be no different. That being said, let's get to it!

'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' features the return of Kevin Conroy as Batman and Tim Daley as Superman (which is by far the most recognizable and best voice duel format for these two characters DC could use ever!). Also starring is Andre Braugher as Darkseid(which, in my opinion, his performance was kinda week, it just didn't seem like he had a powerful enough voice to be Darkseid, just my opinion, don't worry I don't charge for it), Ed Asner as Granny Goodness (who turned in a better performance as a Women then Andre Braugher turned in as a dude), and Summer Glau as Supergirl (Summer did fine, it's very hard to screw up Supergirl, especially an origin story).

The movie starts out with Kara coming to Earth. She crash lands in the Bat boat giving Batman a first glimpse at the new kid from Krypton. Always the cynic, Batman does not welcome Kara with open arms, Superman (being Kara's cousin) does and wants to take her under his wing. Wonder Woman sees an opportunity to train Kara and confronts Batman and Superman. After a brief scuffle Kara finds herself on her way to Paradise Island, where she is trained in combat. Superman doesn't see the point and Wonder Woman is quick to remind Sups that 'having power and knowing how to use it aren't the same thing', Superman can only reply 'She's getting on my nerves'. This sequence brings all the good guys together and provides a bit of a purpose for all of them, which is the well being of Kara.

Kara still has to make a choice and be who she was born to be. Throw Darkseid and Granny Goodness in the mix and what you get is a rock em sock em punch you in the face action flick that reintroduces Supergirl to the DC Universe in a way that has not been seen before.

'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' is better then 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies' for one reason, and that is the last act of the movie. Both movies flowed really well and where easy to watch. Both Storylines draw you in and with the way the 'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' introduction played out it felt like a true sequel to 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies'. Which is a good thing!

There is a bit of time where you say to yourself: 'Wait a minute, I didn't see Superman fight Darkseid or anyone else fight him! What's up with that?' Well let me just say the end sequence is solid and tied the movie up nicely. The fight between Superman, Supergirl and Darkseid was simply Epic in every way. You almost didn't see it coming as it happened right when Kara is feeling the cool summer breeze and the nice relaxing notion of growing up on a simple farm in Kansas. Then BOOOM!! The shat hits the fan and Superman and Supergirl are back to fighting for their lives again. This time against Darkseid himself! ComicBookMovie Fans, this is the fight that you have all been waiting to see!

So in closing I would like to add that future DC Animated Movies will be compared to 'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' as it was better then 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies' but only by a fight scene. And that's not a complaint. DC and Warner Bro's continue hitting Animated Original Movie home runs out of the park, leaving Marvel with a bad taste in their mouth. If you only buy one Animated title per year then pick up 'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' it will not disappoint. If you buy two then you simply have to see 'Batman: Under the Red Hood', which is ranked third on my 'Bestes of All Time 'DC Animated Original Movie List'! I can't wait to add more to the list.

Many thanks to Warner Home Video for providing my Blu-Ray copy before it hits retail shelves everywhere tomorrow!

Click HERE to preorder you're copy from Amazon today or wait till midnight and hit up Wal-Mart so you can watch the next best Animated Movie with your breakfast in the morning. Either way you will not be disappointed.

Don't forget to click on the below Supergirl and or Wonder Woman pic's (and or both) to get to their hot galleries over at ComicBookHotties.com!

Elisha Cuthbert

Tiffany Fallon as Wonder Woman

Keep em coming DC and Warner Home Video!! We love em!!

Thanks for reading everybody!

PS: The look at Superman's next animated adventure 'All-Star Superman' looked pretty cool. As long as they keep the pacing of Public Enemies, Apocalypse, and Under the Red Hood that one will be a hit as well!

my first comment calling out the editing misses was deleted???

LAME!!!!

if you don't edit something thoroughly, that's one thing; but don't rewrite history and delete my comment calling it out.

yes yes, the article is fixed now. Congrats. but that's weak that you deleted my first post too. Just own up to a mistake and move on, no big deal. That's freakin sad to see on a site I really do enjoy.

@write33 - that's a recurring problem here. It only happens with some of the editors, less now than it used to. Some just can't handle the other users on CBM giving them a hard time, and their pride gets ahold of them. That's all. It was just funny because they totally replaced a character's name several times, but what can ya do, you know?

Aside from all of that, I am REALLY looking forward to picking this up tomorrow!!!

GR8 STUFF @ JMAN bro!

Yeah I liked it too, but I still liked PUBLIC ENEMIES that much more!

Still DC is ANIMATED GOLD... I just feel 70 minutes wasn't enough, we want these movies at least 90 minutes, proper length movies!!!

Can't wait for the next one, awesome dude and HELL YESSS!

@Bamf7

yep yep, 'just is funny as i lost most respect for the editor when he did that than for making the editing mistakes..........hell, I used to work as a tech writer; editing mis-haps are totally normal!

but yep yep, I'm with ya, I think the DC animated movies are getting better & better, and this looks really strong. 'saw Under the Red Hood at Comic Con; great stuff!

J.Man @: Great article!!! Really do miss your review vids, man. You really do have a critic eye (and ear) that I respect.

That being said, I do disagree with you on two things....

1. Superman/Batman Public Enemies. I did like it, but you never REALLY get the feeling that society as a whole temporarily turned their backs on Sups. The whole thing seemed rushed.

2. And with all the head chopping and gender banter, Wonder Woman is by far DC's best animated film to date.

cheers!

@Write33 - I agree. Doing that is a good way to make users NOT feel welcome. But oh well, it is what it is!

I liked Under the Red Hood too, with my only major complaint being that I didn't particularly care for the the Joker's vocals. Just didn't fit in that story to me, but it didn't ruin the experience.

Did you see the trailer for All Star Superman? That one looks like it's gonna be really good!

And once again I fail to see what was great about Public Enemies. Just found it to be a rather boring string of fighting sequences with a totally ridiculous ending. Animation was only okay, the voice acting somehow lacking (despite having great people on the job), overall not bad, but just nowhere near great.

Apocalypse was pretty good, although from what I've read I might have prefered them sticking to the original ending...

How was the Green Arrow short? I haven't heard anyone speak on that yet.

@write: Jeez dude relax a little, will this make up for it? You are totally right about the editing misses I had, the only reason I deleted your awesome eye catching comments was because I thought I got to it quick enough, sorry to upset you. Everyone please pat write on the back, he was correct.

Thanks for the shout outs regarding the videos, it will happen again, busy schedules right now for everyone. Batman will be back so will John! Thanks a billion!

Nice review minus the undeserved praise for Public Enemies (which totally sucked and is no where in the same league as Under The Red Hood much less better than it).

Apocalypse was very good and second best in regards to the D.C. direct to DVD movies in my book.
