The DC Extended Universe is a mess, and that shows no signs of changing until Warner Bros. hires a new leader who can, hopefully, get this franchise where it needs to be. Walter Hamada's time in charge has by no means been a disaster, but his plans for Superman have not been well-received by fans.
We know of not one, but two reboots, with the first focusing on a Black Superman in a period setting and the other heading straight to HBO Max with Val-Zod taking centre stage. Both premises are intriguing, but between those projects and reports that The Flash permanently replaces Superman with Supergirl, it's no wonder interest in them seems minimal.
It all goes back to how popular Henry Cavill is as Superman, of course, and the vocal desire to see him back as the Man of Steel. A faceless cameo in Shazam! frustrated more than it excited fans, while we've frequently heard reports that the British actor may be done as Clark Kent.
However, with new leadership at Warner Bros., it appears the studio might finally be listening. Talking to Fandango's Erik Davis, The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez was asked what the chances are we'll see Cavill as Superman again, and he repeatedly said to divulge what he's been told would be a "spoiler."
We have to believe this means Cavill's Man of Tomorrow will be part of Black Adam, because if anyone could make his return happen, it's Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. What the future holds beyond that remains to be seen, but it's baffling that we haven't seen the world's most iconic superhero on the big screen for nearly five years now.
A movie featuring Superman, Black Adam, and Shazam would be a guaranteed hit, of course, though if Dan Lin is going to be overseeing the DCEU, who knows how his plans might differ?
Stay tuned for updates.
