What If Tim Burton Directed The Next Superman Movie?

What If Tim Burton Directed The Next Superman Movie?

Well it was suppose to happen but did not. Back in the 90's which seems like a lifetime ago, Tim Burton was attached to a little project called Superman Lives. They even built a Daily Planet set.

Nicolas Cage was set to star as Superman in probably what was the first pay and play deal. But then, after all the hoopla, the project just died and went away. To bad for us and the world that we did not get to see Tim Burton's interpretation of Superman, and a double to bad we all got stuck with what we got stuck with. If it was a perfect world we would have seen Brandon Routh or Tom Welling play Supes in Tim Burton's vision of The Man Of Steel.

Brainiac was to be the main villain in the Tim Burton version of Superman. Below check out the design process of Brainiac.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyy JMAN @ Grrrrrrrrrrrr lol, i done this three days ago! Sorta.

But its good to bring it to the masses! ; )

I personally think, it would've been cool! As we didn't get a SUPERMAN movie till like 2006 right? This thing was gonna be made in 1998 so i say it was a shame how seeing how SUPES in BURTONS mind panned out on film!

Could've looked like this =

But NO, we don't want him now on SUPES!

Bring back KEVIN SMITH or even BAY for a DEATH OF SUPERMAN with DOOMSDAY!!! ; )

Grif @ Always a charmer! : D

Love Kevin Smith but I dunno if he could handle a film that size. Now Bay would be interesting, at least we know thered actually be some good action in it.
WeaponX
WeaponX - 7/7/2009, 9:01 AM
Superman Returns wasn't a bad film.

It was a good call to bin Tim Burton's Superman. It's the wrong material for him and if Burton got his mitts on it we would most likely see Helena Bonham Carter play Lois Lane. Ew.

LEEE777 - Kevin Smith would probably do a kick ass job, I read his script online years ago and it was awesome.

Kevin Smith was never going to direct a Supes movie, just write it. As for Burton, im a fan of his movies but he ws a TERRIBLE choice to direct Superman. Metropolis would have been turned into a goths wet dream! I mean look at those production stills! I can just picture Brainiac crawling along to 50s sci fi music.

Must have been working on the iron man article the same time.

I didn't see the superman lee article, sorry dude.

@Kevin: Dude did you wake up this morning perfect today? Quit being a douche, if it wasn't for us editors you wouldn't have something to wake up too, to trash every day, so um, yeah, keep up the good work Keven with a e!

I dont' think so. Imagine a superman movie so fantastic it has Edwars Scissorhands as a cameo, or even Beetlejuice.

Don't get me wrong, Butron's a great director, I just think he's not the kind fofirector would make an awesome Superman movie... perhaps if somehow Mr. Mxyzptlk traps superman in a sort of dimensional drift, idk, but that sounds too Alice in Wonderland to me !

I agree with WeaponX and Rorschach01. Burton is a horrible choice for Superman, though I do like some of his other movies.
And as previously stated, Superman returns wasn't necessarily a bad film. There were a few bad choices, but it wasn't bad overall.

Michael Bay is the Best choice for a Superman Movie followed by Peter Jackson. But not Burton.

KEVIN SMITH SAID HE'D NEVER DIRECT A SUPERHERO ACTION MOVIE, HE'S ALL ABOUT THE BACK AND FORTH BANTER..MICHAEL BAY IS HOT WOMEN AND SEXY AND EXPLOSIONS, ITS COOL BUT ITS NOT SUPERMAN..SINGER DID AN OK JOB BUT YOU PUSH A SON AND TOO MUCH DRAMA IT JUST MAKES IT REEK LIKE HOLLYWOOD SOAP OPERA..BURTON, I DO LIKE THE BRAINIAC DESIGN BUT IN ALL HONESTY, BURTONS STUFF, ITS COOKY AND WIERD, THATS NOT SUPERMAN, ITS NOT EVEN CLARK KENT,FORGET THAT...ID SAY SNYDER,HE HONORS GRAPHIC NOVELS AND TRIES TO GET AS CLOSE TO SOURCE MATERIAL AS POSSIBLE DOWN TO THE FINEST DETAIL, SURE WATCHMEN DIDNT HAVE THE SQUID, BUT ALL IN ALL HE HONORED MOST OF IT TO THE FULLEST.WACHOWSKIS, MAYBE..THEYRE COMIC SUPER GEEKS, COMICS ARE MOTHERS MILK TO THEM..IT WOULD HAVE A DEEP STORY, GROUND BREAKING GRAPHICS AND SFX..THERED BE ACTION..I DUNNO GUYS..WHAT DO U THINK?
Stumblin
Stumblin - 7/7/2009, 9:18 AM
I think he could pull it off, Batman was great, and if you think it would be too dark look at Attack From Mars, it was light hearted fun, so Burton isn't all dark.

At least his Brainiac looks bad ass.
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 7/7/2009, 9:19 AM
Hey JMAN @ That's cool! No worries, i don't think alot of ppl saw mine anyway lol, so its good more can! ; )

ROR @ Would it of mattered if it did get made back then?? I reckon it would've had a nice twist to the thing but then again if it did make lotsa $$$ it wouldn't of been a one off, so maybe its a good call lol!

WeaponX @ Yeah its a damn shame dude! Hey i loved SUPERMAN RETURNS too! Opps, i should've done that in CAPS heh heh. ; D
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 7/7/2009, 9:19 AM
Yeah, give Michael Bay the gig! I mean youl get to see Jimmy Olson become a black guy from the Ghetto who got the job with the Planet through affirmative action, and hel say things like "Supes is da man dawg" and other cool stuff. Lois will be played my Megan Fox. She will have about 2 lines of Dialoge with Kent, both of which will have the audience reaching for the sick bags. Brainiac will release horny little robo spiders, all negative racial stereotypes. They will hump the casts legs in every scene. The story will make absolutely no sense, the script will be abysmal and the worst thing is, hel try to make it a comedy.

But hey, at least we will get some kick ass action right!!!!
Shadowelfz
Shadowelfz - 7/7/2009, 9:26 AM
Im with Ror and Weapon X on this one. Tim Burton is awesome and all, but Superman? Really bad idea. Nicholas Cage playing Superman? Even worse idea. At least he had a villian other than Lex Luthor to fight, though ;)
Shadowelfz
Shadowelfz - 7/7/2009, 9:28 AM
Haha your probably right, Ror. We should keep Bay away from Sups too.

Bay for Sups? Pllleeease!!!!

Burton is a great director and visionary, but his gothic style doesn't suit Sups and the studio recognized it.

Bay for Superman? Why not tap Uwe Boll for the third Batman film while we're at it.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 7/7/2009, 9:37 AM
I didn't say it was racist..i said he uses negative racial stereotypes. Thats a fact. Its up to the public to decide whether they think its racist or not. I don't think Bay is, i just think hes a juvenile, irresponsible asshole.
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 7/7/2009, 9:38 AM
Oh here's some more concept art from the Burton movie!

Phoenix9109
Phoenix9109 - 7/7/2009, 9:43 AM
Ror01 made me laugh out loud with his vision of a Bay Superman. So yeah, I'm not sure which would be worse, a Burton Superman or a Bay Superman.
I just know I don't want either of them anywhere near that franchise. It's failing hard enough on it's own, which is a shame, really.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 7/7/2009, 9:50 AM
I know, i really need to stop going on about it! Its just when anyone metions Bays name in connection with any movie i care about i have to vent.

Also, Tropic Thunder was a parody! The fact that it was completely racist was the whole point! It was poking fun at the pretentiousness of Hollywood and big stars that think because they make "art" that they are above the usual bashing they should probably receive..and, once again, most importantly and hopefully for the last time, ..Tropic Thunder was a COMEDY! Transformers isnt..or at least, isnt supposed to be. ROTF changed that. They could have at least made it funny!
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 7/7/2009, 10:00 AM
OMG the vote is nearly 50 50 ! WTF??? ; D

Stop bringing up ROTF or i'll bring out WOLVIE Panties! Heh heh.

YAY! BAYHEM!! SUPES VS DOOMIE!!! ; )
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 7/7/2009, 10:04 AM
Yes, its a parody! Of course it excuses it! Its poking fun AT the racists. The same way Life Of Brian as a religious satire excuses its anti Catholicism.

And im sure there were people crying with laughter, people laugh at Rob Schneider movies, go figure!

Anyway, your right, enough.

Uwe Boll for Superman!

divo - 7/7/2009, 10:07 AM
This would have been amazing. It would have been such an awesome take on the man of steel. Because lets face it...SUPERMAN SUCKS! He is definitely one of the worse super heroes. I would've watched this.

Anil @ dude ive just commented on what you said on my article about Burtons Batman movies! Damn, weird eh! ; D

Anyway i love the Burton Bat movies! An i would've liked to see this SUPERMAN one but not if it spawned sequels though, coz i like SUPERMAN RETURNS too dammit! : D
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/7/2009, 10:33 AM
Teabag...only the white people are saying its racist, because they're the ones being racist. how can you see a stereotype and just automatically assume its about black people. that makes the assumER racist. just my opinion

MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 7/7/2009, 10:47 AM
here we go again. Ok CorndogBurglar, so by your thinking, there is no such thing as a racial stereotype then? They are just figments of us "real racists" imagination so we have something to further our agenda with? Nobody has to assume anything, the damn writers admitted that they thought what Bay did with certain characters was inexcusable. Like i said, they didn't even offend me because im not very PC anyway, but i see how someone could be VERY offended at the same time. Skids and Mudflap perpetuated a negative stereotype that all black teenagers are illiterate, gansta speaking, gold tooth wearing, bug eyed, jug eared fools. The same way that if Bay had a Jewish robot called Sheeny that had a long nose and looked after all the Decepticon wealth would have perpetuated a negative Jewish stereotype.

If you think thats all harmless fun well thats your choice, personally i think a movie aimed at kids could have done without them. My choice.

Spideywidey i actually enjoyed it! lol, never have thought it i know. The fight scenes were amazing.
Inohaku
Inohaku - 7/7/2009, 10:58 AM
If Transformers is aimed in great part at kids, why use weed brownies??? Not good.
