Where is our new Superman Movie?

Why is the Man of Steel having a hard time taking flight in the cinemas?

He has been around for 7 - 8 decades, I would presume he is older than any of us here. He has gone to many adventures, he is strong enough to bend steel, fast enough to outrun a bullet but why can't he maintain a regular movie series?

It bothers me that the news everywhere is that the Last Son of Krypton is grounded indefinitely. Is it really tough to come up with a Superman story? They do it regularly in the comics, I would like to believe that any of those could transfer well as a movie.

I don't think it's the finances, DC is backed up by a Major studio, Warner Bros. I would presume that a superman movie will always do good in the box office, I know that the last one was a bit of a drab, but it still manage to haul in good numbers right. Superman is so well known, all you have to do is make a movie and people will come, especially us - right!?

I think that is why Smallville is doing good, because people do know that he will become Superman, but the longer they hold out the longer the people will get frustrated. It's getting ridiculous already, why he is still not Superman its high time he becomes Superman. Superman in TV had a good track record even that desperate housewifey - Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman was a good watch back in its time.

Back to my rantings about the Superman movie. I want it now, I do not want to wait another 4 or 5 years. I really don't see why it could take that long and how difficult a Superman movie could be done.

I'm not sure how you guys feel, but I think a good number of you would like to watch Superman fly again and really really soon. He is the reason why we have superheroes, why we have superhero comics and why we have superhero movies. So I think it's just proper that he take that right and give us a regular dose of the Man of Tomorrow.

Make a new Superman movie and maybe that Superman Return movie will just be a hicccup in the long history of Superman.

I think that the origin story should be redone. Have Krypton look like Coruscant in Star Wars with skyscrapers, speeders, and advanced technology, instead of the ice planet. But, if no one wants the origin story, why not start the movie with Superman crashing on Earth in his spaceship and being found by the Kents. Then have him grow up and create the Fortress of Solitude, where he comes across a computer image of Jor El, which shows him footage of Krypton's history and the planet itself with its citizens, as well as Jor El himself and his wife. Then have footage showing Jor El and the Kryptonian forces fighting General Zod and defeating him and imprisoning him, as well as Jor El arguing with others over Krypton's destruction and the footage of Superman leaving Krypton in the spaceship with his parents watching. Superman could also be shown training at the fortress and later fight Zod in the first movie only and later Lex in the sequel, perhaps in an alliance with Brainiac or have Lex make a clone of Superman, which would be Bizarro, and have Superman fight him in the sequel along with Lex. All the while show him meeting and romancing Lois and working at the Daily Planet in Metropolis. But please keep Superman serious and let the movie be more mature, like the Dark Knight, but perhaps not as dark.

Nice article. you'd think that warner bros. would try to make a fair film for the most iconic superhero in history, but alas, we arrive to the real world, where studios couldn't care less about the characters they own. Seriously, what kind of world do we live in, where batman has more life action movies than superman? Ridiculous. Superman the movie stands alone as the single greatest cbm in history. That alone should be enough incentive for WB to keep trying with the character. Pretty soon, Green Lantern will come out, and it will be batman's turn to be betrayed by warner.

I want to see the death of superman I mean supes going toe to toe with doomsday would be a dark story and then having the rebirth of superman would be a little more lighter so we get some of TDK elements without going too dark.
All this would transfer into a bad-ass F***in movie if they do it right.

Reboot my cancer ridden buttocks!! Seriously folks, move on from the reboot. I can't understand why it's so hard when every testosterone filled guy loves a good fight. Forget about why everyone in the media MUST have a good ending or any ending at all. Leave them wondering and thinking which opens up that doorway to another movie. I think it would be great to stick with The Death of Superman story and end the movie with just that! A dead superhero. To segway it back for another movie have a silhouette of either the Cyborg, Eradicator, or Steel himself. Hell... Shaq's probably bored anyhow, right?

Jonathan does make a point about the marketing, I mean it's like Easter. We have chocolate covered bunnies cuz a Strawberry filled Cross would just be wrong, but c'mon... think about it. $50 Metropolis playsets that can be destroyed in the fight with Doomsday. Maybe Todd McFarlane could sketch up some really sweet figures too.

There are options... just as long as Tim Burton doesn't have anything to do with it. God the inhumanity of having a Kal-El Scissorfingers!!

Superman Returns had some good moments but wasted opportunities: Lex going to the Fortress was the ideal opportunity to jack up his IQ and make him the Lex we love, dont even get me started on the kid. What I'd like to see is the proper hi tech fortress of solitude and the sci fi elements poroperly handled. Have superman derive tech from his ship or something.

An origin story isnt needed for us to get a new view of Krypton, just flashback to the creation of Braniac or Doomsday on Krypton. If I had the power I'd bring back Routh, unleash Doomsday, kill Superman and his baby, Resurrect him with more purpose and resolve, end movie with clasic superman smile at camera with a robotic glint in his eye: setting up Cyorg supes or Metallo as the villain in the sequel. There's your dark Superman WB...but we all know that would nevr happen.

Ironic that Superman Returns disrgarded Superman III onwards and was proclaimed as the true sequel to Superman II only for it to be the death of the franchise.

@breakUbatman: Amen... well said. The whole concept that Bryan Singer directed was so piss poor that SOMEONE at DC should have said, "Wait.. WTF?" But they ran with it because they wanted to rush the doors with something other than Batman. Thank God for Green Lantern is all I have to say.

The only way to go with a Superman film now is to bring in Darkseid. He's a threat that is so nuclear that this would take the kiddie gloves off of Superman. Now whether or not this happens who knows? I'll say it again it cant be that hard to make Superman movie!
