Zack Snyder Talks Approach To Superman's Flight And Recreating Krypton In MAN OF STEEL

With the marketing campaign for Man Of Steel now underway, we've been getting more details about the highly anticipated Superman film. In an interview with SFX, director Zack Snyder discusses shares his thoughts on Henry Cavill in the extremely iconic titular role, stating things that I'm sure many of us can agree on. “God, he’s so Supermanish it’s crazy! There was a telling moment – we put him in the Christopher Reeve costume, because we didn’t have a suit yet, we just had the old spandex suit. He stepped out of the trailer and no one laughed. It’s the difference between being Superman and dressing up like Superman. If I’m dressed up like Superman it’s like a Halloween costume. If you’re Henry it’s your clothes. It’s awesome. Watch the movie and you’re like ‘Holy shit, that’s Superman.’ And it’s not weird or crazy, it’s just cool.”

Snyder also talks about the approach taken to Superman's abilities to fly, calling it "raw" and more violent. “It’s a more violent experience. It’s raw. It takes effort to do it, and that’s what we were really going for. It’s almost like there’s this kind of Right Stuff quality to it. He’s constantly booming around, accelerating. You think he’s going as fast as he can and then it’s like ‘Yeeaahh!’ He’s always got an extra gear he can use.” Finally, the director talks about recreating the world of Krypton, revealing that he aimed at giving it an "ancient" yet "not unbelievable" feel. “I really wanted my Krypton to be this kind of special place that’s immersive and totally different from Earth, but not unbelievable. And ancient. I really wanted to give this ancient feeling to Krypton. I love technology that’s rusty because it’s so old. It’s so advanced, but it’s so old. That was the kind of world that I tried to create. A dying world that’s ancient and torn apart.” For more on Man Of Steel, be sure to pick up the latest issue of SFX.

Man Of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne and Russell Crowe. The film is set to hit theaters June 14th.

I get the excitement built around this movie but I have never been a big Superman fan. Im going to judge this strictly off of how much this changes my opinion on IMHO the most boring of all superheroes. I dont like when a hero is so strong that there is nothing that can make me worry about the characters safety. Superman has always been a boy scout so he isnt prone to self destructive behavior. Superman has always been so powerful that next to nothing appears to hurt him. I like emotional tension and this movie seems to have it in spades. I cant wait but im still looking forward to IM3 and T:TDW more.

I've been waiting so long for a Superman film that looks like it may be the definitive version of Superman. This looks like it. When you look at Cavill in the uniform, he is Superman not an actor portraying Superman. That is a big impression. I already took June 14 off from work, need to see MOS as soon as it comes out!

God im so hopeful for this film, although worried as well. Told myself i wasnt going to get over-excited after TDKR, but this is just looking so good. Between this and Star Trek for years best i think.

Henry Cavill is freaking Superman. I mean the dude is more Superman than Reeves as far as I'm concerned. I know that sounds like blasphemy.

This is the one movie I am waiting to see this year. I love all CBMs, but nothing thus far has gotten me really excited. Loved the hell out of IM, but IM2 was s disappointment, so I think that is why I'm not head over heels for that one. Only basing my opinion from the trailer, Man of Steel definitely looks like it has heart. I'm loving the presumed new theme as well. This definitely looks like a breath of fresh air, not only for Superman movies, but for CBMs in general. Can't wait!
