Given producer and director Michael Bay's affiliation with both the Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchises, it may not be a reach to see the two cross paths onscreen one day. The next installment of the Turtles franchise, TMNT: Out Of The Shadows, releases this Friday, and in an interview with Screen Rant, producer Brad Fuller was quick to downplay the suggestion of a crossover, saying that there's still plenty of material to be mined from the wealth of Ninja Turtles stories before attempting a story with intermingling characters from other franchises. “It feels to me like we need to do a lot more work before we get to that stage. First, I would think we want to make, if we’re lucky enough to have another Turtle movie beyond this one, I don’t know why we would start doing a crossover until it felt like the storylines had been played out in the Turtle world. I feel like Kevin (Eastman) and Peter (Laird) have created so many amazing stories that we’re not even close to that. So I’m not even sure why I would want to do it at this point.”
Despite these comments, Fuller teased a moment in the new Turtles film that will give a wink to fans of the Transformers franchise. “I will say that in this Turtle movie there is a tangential moment that the Transformers fans will enjoy. At this point, and I hate this, but at this point I can’t see any kind of crossover. There’s never been talk of that. We’re just trying to create an environment where people are eager to see more Turtles. If that happens, no one has mentioned it to me. And I don’t think anyone has ever mentioned it to Bay. I don’t know how that would happen.”
