CW's upcoming superhero drama The Flash has added Clancy Brown (Sleepy Hollow) in a major recurring role as General Wade Eiling a.k.a. The General. His character will be the head of a black ops team and will make his first appearance of the season in episode five where he will be in hot pursuit of Kelly Frye's Plastique with hopes of using her as a human weapon. The character has been described as a tall and imposing man, with a "face carved from years of duty," and someone who will be fanatically intent on protecting the interests of Americans around the world. He may also have ties to a central Flash character. As many of you know, this won't be Brown's first foray into the DC Universe as he has voiced Lex Luthor in the DC Animated Universe since 1996.

General Eiling does have connections to the Suicide Squad, so he may be a future addition to the version of the squad that the Arrow/Flash universe has built. The character has also made television appearances on Justice League Unlimited, where he was voiced by Spider-Man's J.K. Simmons, and on Young Justice voiced by Jeff Bennett

The character is just the latest addition to an already impressive guest cast which features Robbie Amell (Firestorm), Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold), Robert Knepper (Clock King), Kelly Frye (Plastique), & William Sadler (Simon Stagg). The freshman season will also feature special appearances from the stars of its sister show Arrow, namely Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/Arrow) & Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak).

What do you think about this casting? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Barry Allen was just 11 years old when his mother was killed in a bizarre and terrifying incident and his father was falsely convicted of the murder. With his life changed forever by the tragedy, Barry was taken in and raised by Detective Joe West, the father of Barry’s best friend, Iris. Now, Barry has become a brilliant, driven and endearingly geeky CSI investigator, whose determination to uncover the truth about his mother’s strange death leads him to follow up on every unexplained urban legend and scientific advancement that comes along. Barry’s latest obsession is a cutting edge particle accelerator, created by visionary physicist Harrison Wells and his S.T.A.R. Labs team, who claim that this invention will bring about unimaginable advancements in power and medicine. However, something goes horribly wrong during the public unveiling, and when the devastating explosion causes a freak storm, many lives are lost and Barry is struck by lightning. After nine months in a coma, Barry awakens to find his life has changed once again – the accident has given him the power of super speed, granting him the ability to move through Central City like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by his newfound powers, Barry is shocked to discover he is not the only “meta-human” who was created in the wake of the accelerator explosion – and not everyone is using their new powers for good. In the months since the accident, the city has seen a sharp increase in missing people, unexplained deaths and other strange phenomena. Barry now has a renewed purpose – using his gift of speed to protect the innocent, while never giving up on his quest to solve his mother’s murder and clear his father’s name. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won’t be long before the world learns what Barry Allen has become…The Flash.

The Flash features:
Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/Flash
Candice Patton as Iris West
Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne
Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow
Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon
Tom Cavanagh as Dr. Harrison Wells
Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West
John Wesley Shipp as Henry Allen
Michelle Harrison as Nora Allen
Robbie Amell as Ronnie Raymond

The Flash premieres October 7

Clancy Brown is the only man I can respect as Lex Luthor - he's voiced the only true interpretation of the character.

I can totally see him as General Eiling though, especially live-action where he's so friggin tall. His stature, regardless of his age and added pounds, will always be that of the Shawshank Redemption.

I really wish they had gone to him to play Lex in the movies though. I don't care that he may be too old for multiple films, the fact is - he can breathe to life that character with his eyes closed. Wouldn't it have been great as well, for a Macbeth-an style Lex Luthor to be everything that Superman is not, to be overly ambitious and seizing an opportunity to rise to power at an older age?

Very cool! Excited about the overall cast for this show! I definitely agree it would have been cool to see him as Lex in DOJ. A little more intimidating of an actor like him would have been nice.

The definitive Lex Luthor, who also played Flash in an episode of Justice League (body swap between Lex and Flash) is now going to be in the Flash show? Nice.

They've gotta get Rosenbaum in the show too somehow, given that he played Wally West in Justice League. Let him voice Grodd or something.

This is really great news. The cast of Flash has been getting nice. You can tell CW isn't messing around. I hope the next member to join Flash is William Fichter. They have an unofficial Prison Break reunion. So why add more from that show.

Brown for the win! AND his first live-action DC role!

He's appeared in a few of my fancasts, believe it or not: Magmatron in "Beast Wars: The Gathering and the Ascending", STRIPE in mine and ager's "Rogues" collaboration, and more recently Rolf Emerson in my "Robotech" film series.

Hell yes!! Clancy Brown is a great actor and has done a hell of a lot more than just voicing cartoons!! It would be fun to see if they introduce the Shaggy Man into the series so that "The General" can be introduced!!

The General is one of the most powerful Justice League's villains. It took the entire League to take him down. This means that Flash would not stay alone for long....
