First announced all the way back in 2018, Disney Junior's The Rocketeer is finally ready to take flight. The upcoming CGI animated series, inspired by Dave Stevens' comic book, will premiere on Friday, November 8, 2019, on Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and DisneyNOW.
Intended for younger kids and their families, The Rocketeer will follow a young girl named Kit who receives a surprise birthday package revealing she's next in line to become the Rocketeer. The cartoon series will see Kit take the skies to help protect her town of Hughesville and its residents from trouble from "comedic villains." Assisting Kit on her heroic adventures will be her friend and gadget-minded inventor Tesh, and her grandfather, Ambros Secord, who works at the Hughesville Airport and serves as her mechanic.
While Disney Junior's The Rocketeer isn't exactly targeting adults, there was one really big announcement that might have older fans excited. Billy Campbell, who played the protagonist in 1991's The Rocketeer, will have a role in the new series. Unfortunately, he won't be playing Cliff Secord. Instead, he'll be voicing Dave Secord, the father of Kit, alongside Kathy Najimy as the voice of his wife Sareena Secord.
Seven-year-old aspiring pilot, Kit Secord, learns she’s next in line to become The Rocketeer, a rocket-pack wearing superhero who can fly! Armed with her cool new gear and secret identity, Kit takes to the skies to protect her town of Hughesville and its residents from danger. Assisting her on her heroic adventures are her best friend Tesh, bulldog sidekick Butch, and airplane mechanic grandfather, Ambrose Secord.
The Rocketeer will premiere on Friday, November 8, 2019, on Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and DisneyNOW. It's unclear if this new animated show will have any impact on the potential female-led rebooot-sequel we heard about all the way back in 2016, which was also supposed to be led by a young African-American female pilot.
