We knew production was set to commence on Thor: Love and Thunder at some point before the end of January, and it looks like cameras are now officially rolling on the highly anticipated Marvel Studios sequel.
We got a glimpse of some sets being constructed over the weekend, and Chris Hemsworth has now confirmed that filming is underway via Instagram. The Avengers: Endgame star shared some photos of himself alongside director Taika Waititi and indigenous Australian Gamay dancers of the Gadigal and Bidjigal nation.
Hemsworth also took the opportunity to point out the grim significance of today's date (January 26).
“Indigenous Australians may be just as proud of this country, but many see January 26th as a date signifying the beginning of dispossession, disease epidemics, frontier violence, destruction of culture, exploitation, abuse, separation of families and subjection to policies of extreme social control. Let’s begin the healing and stand together in unity and support with our First Nations people with solidarity and compassion. Let’s find a date where all Australians can celebrate this beautiful country together.”
In addition to Hemsworth, Thor: Love and Thunder will see Natalie Portman return as new God of Thunder Jane Foster, while Tessa Thompson will also reprise her role as Valkyrie. It was recently revealed that Christian Bale will portray the villainous Gorr the God Butcher, and it's also been confirmed that director Taika Waititi will once again provide the voice of Korg.
Several of the Guardians of the Galaxy also look set to appear, and there are rumors that Beta Ray Bill might feature in some capacity.
