At the end of Thor: The Dark World, Loki was sat on the throne in Asgard disguised as Odin. While he's been ruling the cosmic realm since then, it sounds like the God of Mischief is going to realise that he's in way over his head. According to Thor: Ragnarok executive producer Brad Winderbaum, Thor and Loki will be forced to work together to hunt down Odin when it becomes clear that the All-Father has been doing more than they ever realised to keep Asgard safe from threats like the returning Hela.

"What Thor comes to learn early on is that there's a lot of terrible things in the cosmos that just shouldn't be that way. And we learn that Odin was doing far more than it seemed on the surface to keep the universe safe. That there were all these threats that he had quelled or was keeping at bay, using his strength and power to do so, that Loki was completely unaware, unprepared for."

When the movie begins, it sounds like Loki is happy with his newfound status but his victory proves to be bittersweet. "He becomes the King of Asgard, everything is great, it's a good party, but he failed to realize the threats that were just over the horizon, Hela being the biggest and most terrible one of all." That leads to the villain joining the God of Thunder's team of Revengers as they try to stop her.

However, after revealing that Thor has moved on from hating Loki or even viewing him as an enemy, Tom Hiddleston explains why that leaves him feeling out of sorts. "The opposite of love is not hate but indifference. So the idea that Thor might be indifferent to Loki is troubling for him, because that's a defining feature of his character is, I don't belong in the family; my brother doesn't love me; I hate my brother. And the idea his brother's like, yeah, whatever, it's an interesting development."

I'm wondering if this will be the conclusion to the Thor series for now. Hopefully Marvel continue on with the Thor films considering how limited the first two were. He doesn't have to be an Avenger anymore after Avengers 4, so let's keep it focused on his adventures in Asgard and around the other realms. There is still so much untapped cinematic potential for the character and his world.

@Spodermug - I think this will be the final Thor "solo" movie. It's a trilogy. Which sucks.

Thor feeling INDIFFERENT about his brother is perfect. It's the logical endpoint he'd arrive at in this relationship. Trying to change Loki hasn't worked so far. Loving and/or hating him would still mean there's an element of passion and emotional investment there. You need passion to love and hate. Indifference is something else. It's the opposite. If you hate someone, you still care. Indifference makes everything meaningless. In this case, everything being Loki.
