There's been a lot of talk about Thor: Ragnarok embracing a more comedic tone, something which makes sense given director Taikia Waititi's work on movies like What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. However, in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker was quick to point out that the third instalment in the Thor franchise will not be a full on comedy!
"It’s not really a comedy," he explains. "There are some really great moments we’re going to have in the film. Knowing that it was Bruce Banner and Thor on kind of a road trip journey, that lends itself to a tone because those guys are both really funny. I was like you gotta exploit Chris’ comic abilities. He’s so good and underutilized in that department. He’s legitimately one of the funniest things in this film." It sounds like Thor: Ragnarok will find a good balance then and that's no bad thing.
Interestingly, the filmmaker went on to reveal that the tone of the movie is possibly closest to Big Trouble in Little China, the beloved John Carpenter movie which has become a cult classic since 1986.
"Big Trouble in Little China was one of those films where Jack Burton is a buffoon but he’s lovable and you’re with him the entire way. I thought Thor has got to be the one you want to be with in every scene." What do you guys think of these latest comments? Let us know down below.
