Will The God Of Thunder's Roommate Daryl Return In THOR: RAGNAROK?

Thor's roommate Darryl Jacobson made quite the impact in that recently released mockumentary, but based on comments from Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, we may not have seen the last of him...

IGN recently caught up with Taika Waititi to discuss Hunt for the Wilderpeople, but they made sure to ask the Thor: Ragnarok helmer about that brilliant short which revealed that the God of Thunder had found an Australian roommate while the events of Captain America: Civil War were taking place. Is it canon though? It certainly sounds like it could be based on these new comments from the director.

"Thor briefly rented a room in a flat in Australia after the Ultron debacle," Waititi explained. "Just to get some downtime – to get away from The Avengers, to get away from America. So he had a little downtime in Australian. And he met this guy Darryl and they shared a flat together. So that’s Darryl." That's good, but will we see him again? "I think you probably could see him again. There may be other little pieces of that thing that everyone saw that may just be a small part of a bigger thing."

Waititi could be referring to anything from a cameo in Thor: Ragnarok to an extended version of/sequel to that mockumentary then, but it sounds like we need to keep an eye out for Darryl regardless. However, one thing we unfortunately won't see in the Phase 3 release is a nod to the brilliant What We Do In The Shadows. "A thing that will definitely not happen is… if I say anything, it might hint at something else. I have to really watch my words nowadays. This is a topic I should really avoid. OK, one thing you can get from me, not being in Thor, is any of our vampire characters and werewolf characters from the other Taika and Jemaine universe. You won’t see any of that."

What are you guys most looking forward to seeing in Thor: Ragnarok when it's released next year?

What is with this site and referring me to fake prize pages to get viruses? This has been going on for the past week.

If "what Thor was doing during Civil War" becomes canon I will cry.

@Chaos200 - can you imagine? Fanboys would sh*t harder than they did when the Mandarin turned out to be a junky actor and/or Killians awesomely douchey character

@thekabsin - Marvel made Darcy and then made her intern, they turned the Mandarin into an SNL sketch. The focused on a cute little boy instead of Tony Stark's issues. I wouldn't put it past Marvel to try and make this canon. Let me make this clear; common sense tells me this will never be canon but clearly Marvel has had beef with common sense with certain decisions in the past.

@Chaos200 - Really, what's the problem with it being canon? Thor lived in an apartment with some random guy for a while. So what?

@Valdez - Read that back and think about it, hard.

Thor a god,, just randomly decided to live with a dude in his apartment? DURING CIVIL WAR!
Just that alone is bad let's not talk of all the jokes and dialogue that just wouldn't be said by either Thor or Banner.

@Chaos200 - First of all, it almost definitely isn't canon. Second of all, it really wouldn't bother me if it was. It's not like the whole movie would be just Thor in his apartment.

@Valdez - Of course the movie won't be like that, that's not the point. Even if Ragnarok becomes the most badass, emotional and dark Marvel film ever, the idea that what Thor was doing in that comedy sketch actually happened in this universe is embarrassing.

@Chaos200 - I don't think it's that bad. I'm not a huge fan of how comedic they made Thor in the MCU, but I'm fine with it. Also, in Civil War Tony said that he couldn't contact the Hulk, and in the sketch he does, so it's definitely not canon.

@Valdez - Of course it's not canon but I'm saying with the way Marvel have treated Thor and some other mythical characters; I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

the sketch itself was hilarious and fun but I'm just saying that humour should stay in the parody section of the MCU not canon.

@Chaos200 - Well, since it isn't canon, there's nothing to worry about.

@Chaos200 - Darcy and her Intern are because Thor himself is boring. They needed comedy without delegitamizing what was happening in asguard (so no Asguardian characters could really be comedy relief), and they wanted non-comic fans to have grounded human stakes that could be related to and understood. (Like trying to shoehorn in a romance between Gamora and Starlord in GOTG)

Mandarin was a hilarious and genius way to subvert expectations of a character that is largely outdated and sort of racist. Remember that at the time the complaint from fans, regarding Marvel films, was all on the villains. "They all die", "they're all forgetable", "they all have the same plans". "Mandarin" changed all of that. Travis Slattery was funny, interesting and completely changed the scope of the film and no one saw it coming. He delivered on his infamous promise.

Also doing a "Big Daddy" sort of film with RDJ was a genius move. And he honestly had some great interactions with the kid. I think some of you stay in a jaded nerd bubble lamenting things because of what you, personally, wanted instead of appreciating what we're getting.

I came from a time when there were few super hero movies to look forward to. And the ones that did come out were so ass that they were embarrasing to watch. Now we're getting great stories and characters that serve multi-purpose.

And yes, I'm glad that the world is filling up with other characters and having the comic characters meet random people. It makes them more real. Tony Stark flying away to some farm, rebuilding his suit alone and flying back to fight AIM would have been kind of crappy. Him hiding out with the kid and having adventures in town before getting back to his crazy larger than life world? THAT is more like the Stan Lee comics.
