Thor Thunders to Life!

Thor Thunders to Life!

Not Lee/Kirby, not Straczynski, and not even Ultimate Thor, but this movie does them all proud!

We grade on three categories:
1. Faithfulness to comic characterization
2. Comic Action Quotient/Storyline
3. Acting

Reviews are graded on an academic scale of:
A, B, C, D, or F

I really enjoyed Thor. Though not your father's God of Thunder, it was fairly faithful as a hybrid of Marvel's Ultimate Thor and the recent rendition by J. Michael Straczynski so:
Category 1 : B
The action was Kirby-esque with lots of hammer spinning. The fight with the giants (about a foot taller than Asgardians) was what one hoped. Thor's companions, though Asgardians and skilled, were not even close to his power level. The Destroyer dama ged his hammer in the comics so that fight was interesting. Lots of mayhem and explosions!
Category 2 : B
Chris Hemsworth was Thor! Noble, yet battle hungry.
Anthony Hopkins as Odin worked really well. Regal and imposing.
Natalie Portman - Jane Foster never looked so good or half as interesting.
Tom Hiddleston achieved the unthinkable, making Loki sympathetic. After nearly 50 years, he was always annoying before this movie.
Warriors Three and Lady Sif were spot on. Even Frigga played by Rene Russo was perfectly cast.
Category 3 : A

Final Grade : B+

Absolutely agree. Thought it gave a nice accessible blend for those non-Thor fans.

I give the movie an A+! One of the best comicbook movies I've seen. When the Asgard scenes are up, I really felt that we were in another world... Loved it! The Jotunheim battle was superb. And when Thor finally got his powers back...oh man, goosebumps! I always almost cry whenever Thor was about to die...that scene, whoa...glad I'm wearing 3D glasses...and when he failed to lift his hammer?...man, so sad. I really felt the character's pain. Great acting by the whole cast, especially Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston as Loki (I liked Loki better than the Joker, honestly).
