Great news for Marvel’s new Thor movie, which was released in the UK on May 6.

It went to the top of the UK box office in its first week and new figures released today show it’s managed to stay there for a second weekend.

Thor made £1.9 million last weekend, though it did reportedly suffer a sharp drop in ticket sales along with Fast & Furious 5, which holds its No.2 place in the chart.

New releases didn’t get anywhere near the top. Depression-era circus drama Water for Elephants, starring Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz, entered at No.4; teen assassin thriller Hanna, starring Saoirse Ronan, debuted in fifth place; and comic book movie Priest, starring Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Karl Urban and Maggie Q, entered at No.8.

Thor has now brought in $242 million globally, including $176 million from overseas.

@Marvel72....even movies that aren't huge box office successes get sequels...look at those god awful MOVIE movies that seemed to have died officially after Vampire Sucks...still I'm glad THOR is doing great at the B.O. even over seas. I saw it in 2D which they seem to be hard to find but worth the cheaper price

@Marvel...that too is true...it underperformed as they were projecting despite it being a much better version to the Ang Li version. The problem was obvious that they couldn't get a sequel out in time for the Avengers. They said that post Avengers we will see another Hulk Movie

No bull..."Thor" is an excellent superhero movie on par with Iron Man 1, X-Men 1 & 2, and TDK (Thought it was better than Spidey 1 & 2). Anyone who is a fan of this genre is missing out on a rollicking good time if they don't see it in theatres (especially in 3D).

I'm glad some countries recognize great CBMs. while Thor still did pretty decent in U.S. opening, I still can't believe Fast Five's opening weekend beat it by over 20 mil :( I just want to see sequels of all these movies!
