Hiddleston told the site that whilst he was in the early rounds of auditioning for the Marvel comic adaptation, it was suggested to him that, as he was being considered for the part of Thor, he might need to bulk up a bit.

"I followed a strict exercise regime and ate nothing but chicken, as bodybuilders do. Chicken salad for every meal. And sometimes the odd egg."

After six weeks of this, he received a phone call from the producers telling him they wanted him in the film, only playing the part of the slightly less bulky brother of Thor - Loki, "I guess it was a relief to go back to my natural body shape!"

When asked about working with Anthony Hopkins, who will be playing Odin, in a perfect Hopkins accent, Tom recounted a recent message, relayed via director Kenneth Branagh, "Tell Tom I don't like fava beans, and I'm not a complete psycho…"

I didn't see him as Thor anyway-this is a much better role for him.

I think that he's perfect for Loki - he has the perfect look to play the character and the guy is a great actor!

What the hell were they thinking getting him to audition for Thor though, lol!?

@ Josh : The only way I have ever been able explain it to myself is that Branagh knows he's a good actor and that he has blond hair. Otherwise it's a ridiculously bad choice

I say Malcom McDowell for Odin. He is Mr. SciFi!!!!!

LEE: Thanks - I guess I could see him as Blake but in some ways I'm almost hoping Blake isnt included in the movie...I'd like to see him but the whole concept of Blake is pretty confusing in the comic books so it might be even more so on the big screen! :P

DARTH: Yeah, I'm guessing that you're right about that! Though casting Hiddleston as Thor would have been a huge mistake, Branagh really seems to have made some amazing decisions when it comes to this movie so far...I just wish we knew more about Captain America because having the guy who directed such, ahem, "hits" as Jurassic Park 3 and Jumanji really has me worried right now!

@joshw24: Johnston, also, directed the Rocketeer, which was a great movie. If Captain America has the same feel as that, I'll be happy. I've heard people wanting a gritty WWII epic. I think Cap is a little more romantic than that. Plus, Marvel has been really impressive as a studio thus far.

Dont forget that Jon Favreau directed Elf and Zathura. Look how great Iron Man came out. Im sure that Marvel Studios has done the right.

@ Josh: Right there with you. Definitely.

@ Upupandaway: Your point is a good one. Maybe he will do very well. But I do have a few doubts, and these months of waiting and the seeming inactive quality of the project only makes it worse.

@Josh&Darth: I get your apprehension entirely. I like to stay optimistic though until it's known that a movie will blow. Also, I'd rather that they take a deliberative pace and make a great movie than rush a crappy or mediocre one. Hopefully, the time is being taken to make Cap good and to find that perfect cast. Cap could go several different ways tone wise, so I'm interested in seeing where they head with it.

@ Teabag: Marvel will win. But GL will still be a hit. That's my prediction

Agreed Grtman

They considered him for Thor? I don't see that at all, but I definitely see Loki. Perfect look for that role.

I would have preferred Joaquin Phoenix for Loki...

Tom Hiddleston has the right look for Loki. But if I were directing the movie I would have chose Gaspard Ulliel.

Hal, I agree with you Phoenix is an awesome actor, he played Commodus, one of the meanest villains in the movies, but unfortunately he quit acting. What a waste of talent.
