VIDEO: Red Letter Media Review THOR: THE DARK WORLD & ENDER'S GAME

It's been a while since the boys' last "Half In The Bag" review, but they're back with their take on Marvel's latest blockbuster, Thor: The Dark World, and a movie that busted no blocks whatsoever, Gavin Hood's Ender's Game.

So a thumbs down for Ender's Game, and slightly begrudging thumbs up for Thor: The Dark World. Do you guys agree/disagree? Sound off in the usual place.

What's this?? Some actual discussion about the topic at hand! Wonders never cease.

I pretty much hated Ender's Game. Never read the book, but it just seemed lazy and uninspired..with pretty bad performances across the board..Kingsley and Ford were on the phone the whole movie, and even Butterfield and Steinfield (two clearly gifted young actors) struggled.

@RorMachine

Ender's Game was a game changer at the time of its release as a book, especially for kids. In todays endless humanist portrayals of villains you MUST feel for in some way, Enders Game offers a militaristic (to some degrees even facist)view as to us versus them. Its uncompromising and at times harsh. To kids seeing the movie today they probably did say 'Wow. That was unexpected.' Was it a perfect movie? No. I thought the kids did fine, but Kinglsley was just a bad choice, Viola Davis is forgettable, and Ford clearly gives off what has become more apparent: He isn't that great an actor.

Marvel is going after general audiences, but it's usually at the expense of the hard core fan base.

I think Batman Begins and to a lesser extent Iron Man 1 are films that managed to thread the needle and find immense appeal in geeks and non-geeks alike.

Yeah I've heard all the great things about the book so maybe I'll read it...though I admit I can't help being a bit turned off it knowing it was written by such a complete c*nt. But either way, I don't think these great ideas came across in the movie..because it was pretty much a generic sci-fi "he is the one" story as far as I could see.

Yeah, Ror, Orson Scott Card is a dick, but I think that kind of is one of the job descriptions of successful writers. He's just more public about his assholiness. The books are all quite good, and highly readable. I particularly enjoyed the Shadow of the Giant series which is a companion series to the Ender's Game books.

Less Earth, more Malekith, and Thor would have likely been brilliant.

I was pleasantly surprised, but it still suffers from the same issues that every other MCU movie has so far.

@ soforizo

Kind feels like Alan Taylor was hired just to assemble the movie instead of helping to create it. The reason The Avengers turned out so good becuse Whedon went in read the script, said F*%# this, and rewrote it from the ground up.

btw I liked Thor TDW. I thought it was good just not great.

It could have been better. The film just needed to ditch the human character's since they brought nothing to the climax except for Jane Foster. Darcy and Erik should have been cameos and there should have been more screen time for Malekith.

The last battle was great however i kept wanting one of those falling cars to crush Darcy and the intern. I would compare her to Jar Jar Binks.

I'm personally getting tired of end of the world plots by horrible villains. Marvel gets no pass in my book for horrible characters, lame plot, and comedy on the same level of a Rush Hour film.

Isn't Ender the guy that Tony Stark caught playing Galaga on the Helicarrier?
