The Actor Voicing BUMBLEBEE In The TRANSFORMERS Spinoff Has Been Revealed

Bumblebee will finally get to speak in the upcoming Transformers spinoff and we now know who will voice the fan-favourite Autobot. It's a name you'll know but not someone tied to the long-running series...

After years of not being heard from, this month's Bumblebee will finally allow the titular Autobot to speak. During a recent interview with IGN, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed that Maze Runner's Dylan O'Brien is voicing the character, a decision bound to get fans, well, talking.

"Since we were approaching this as an origin story, we felt that it was appropriate that you got to hear his voice," he explained. "That’s the simple logic that we employed. The
longer term implication of that is different. But the short-term implication of that is, since we really are resetting the mythology, essentially, of who Bumblebee is."

In Michael Bay's Transformers movies, Bumblebee communicated via existing media like sound effects and voices from the radio but di Bonaventura says that allowing him to speak "seemed to us to be
the appropriate, to get the chance to hear what he sounds like."

It's certainly an interesting choice and the producer says that the few audiences who have actually heard the actor voicing Bumblebee have responded well to it and agree that O'Brien was a good fit for the role. "Dylan has that great quality in his voice of youthful exuberance, and also sort of trustworthiness," the producer adds. "I think those are the two qualities that we wanted Bumblebee to have."

How do you guys feel about this casting decision? Let us know your thoughts on that down below.

The Maze Runner guy? Heck, why not?

Really, would anyone give a sh*t if the Michael Bay movies were completely ignored? Just do what you think is right for a new start. To hold with a "Bayverse canon" approach is ridiculous. Those movies whipped out their dicks and pissed all over Transformers history, tonally and content.

@Gulducati little to you know the Mandarin loves those movies. Now your entitled to your opinion to hate on those films as I am to love them, with that said I am grateful that you are not in charge of what goes on behind these films. With that out of the way let's enjoy them for what they are or don't and start a petition to REALLY have your distaste heard.

@gulducati - the mandarin has already executed ordered 66 on Daredevil,Luke Cage and The Immortal Irom fist! Would you like the same to happen to the Punisher and Jessica Jones? If not then Shut It and I'll spare them from certain death.

He was great in ‘American Assassin’, I’d love for him to be Jason Todd/Red Hood.

@superbigguy32 - I love him as an actor, and he was great in American Assassin indeed, but no matter how fit he could get, Jason is supposed to be a beast. He's bigger than Nightwing, not as agile but stronger, Batman level. He's supposed to convey that All-Caste trained "street brawler" image of the guy you don't wanna mess with, the only guy to ever clock Lady Shiva.

Again, even though he was great in AA, to me O'Brien is too kind looking. Even though he's hot, you see Jason Todd coming towards you and you're like…

@Asturgis - I'd say Dylan would work best as Tim out of the Robins. Not suave enough for Dick and not intimidating enough for Jason.
Asturgis
Asturgis - 12/3/2018, 2:44 PM
@Philip - Agreed, plus the tech savvyness of Red Robin would fit really well to an actor like O'Brien. Jason needs to be played by a guy like that actor who plays Thunderbird in The Gifted. Without the long hair, of course.

@Asturgis - Not a bad pick, looks and personality wise, it seems. Sadly too old to ever actually be the one playing Jason.

I feel like I keep recommending a different Skarsgård for every role in Hollywood, but I feel like a bulked up Bill could do Jason justice.

@Philip - Huh, I would never have thought about him, but it's a really good pick. Depending on his roles, he's been pretty skinny (he's so thin in Castle Rock), but he could be a great pick.

He's going to speak in the last 30 seconds of the movie and say two words.

Who cares. He's mostly mute. He's only going to have like six lines of dialogue.

About damn time. That crap in the Bay films got old fast. Studio just being cheap. Didn't want to pay for a regular voice actor. A franchise makes billions and they can't pay for an actor for the voice over ?! Cheap!!!

@blitzkreg - Do...do you seriously think that's the reason he doesn't speak?

I’ll take it. He was good in the Maze Runner Trilogy.

Well wow that was a little unexpected and I am just finding out now haha. TBH I was just fine with how Bumblebee uses his shy body language to express himself but maybe these lines will take place in those Cybertron flashbacks.

It’s also Dylan's first work as voice acting and I think he chose well.
