Hasbro Confirms That A New Animated TRANSFORMERS Movie Is In Development...But There's A Catch

The good news. There's a new animated Transformers movie in development that will be receiving a theatrical release. The information was confirmed during Hasbro's annual Investor Day. Boulder Media Studio, a Hasbro-owned film company will be overseeing development on the project while also developing theatrical films for My Little Pony and Stretch Armstrong.

There were no details on when the first film would be released but Hasbro confirmed that after the first one hits theaters, an animated Transformers movie will be released in theaters every year thereafter.

The bad news.  The animated films will be set within the continuity of the live-action Transformers movie universe.  As the domestic box office returns for Transformers: The Last Knight proved, U.S. audiences have definitely soured on Michael Bay's version of the definitive robots-in-disguise (sorry GoBots).

What do you make of this news?  If you skipped out on seeing the Last Knight in theaters, will an animated Transformers film stir your interest enough to make you venture to the cinema?  Let us know in the comment section below.

I'm done for whatever with this franchise. I've loved all the cartoons, toys, and movies since I was a child.

@ElVengador - Okay... Mark Wahlberg sang that Transformers theme as Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights. Now he's starring in the live-action franchise. The new animated series will take place in the same universe. So this means Marky Mark must now complete the circle by singing the theme for the new animated show.

@Buckster10 - Since I've seen the movie many times and others might not see the difference. But between you and me it's cleaned up really nice and colors pop where they need too even the sound is clear and crisp. A must buy! I think this is the only movie in my life time I could say I bought it 4 times VHS, DVD, 20th anniversary DVD & finally Blu-Ray.

Just need to get off my butt and finally re-buy G.I Joe animated movie too.

Transformers: The Movie is more of nolstalgia thing. it's not that good.
beside great animation, Orson Welles as Unicron, Starscream an Woman Autobot there is not much there.

also songs are kinda ... randomly thrown in every scene as i recall (might be wrong though, not sure)

also songs made me wish being deaf

@jerryblake - It really is, but man I love those songs. It was made for kids after all, a feature length toy comercial. You had see it as a kid, because if you don't it looses its magic. Optimus and Megatron battling to the death, Decepticons actually killing Autobots, Starcream finally getting to be leader, and Cybertron getting destroyed! It's [frick]ing amazing...if you are 8 years old.

@ElVengador - Actually, the 3 act story structure was spot on and I loved the metal space odyssey vibe (and yeah, that Stan Bush soundtrack was 80's awesome cheesetastic!). While the animation was spotty, the action was great and it showed how heroic and bad-ass Optimus was. When Prime dies they even foreshadow Hot Rod as the chosen one (when he catches the Matrix of leadership). There were also some deeper themes with the whole "Till all are one" line (meaning no more Autobots or Decepticons, just one society, etc). The voice acting was also great as no one, from Wells to Nemoy to even Judd Nelson, was phoning it in. I still think it holds up.

If your recollection is that hazy maybe you shouldn't be reviewing it for everyone else?

jerryblake - 8/5/2017, 4:50 PM
@FASELI - i told you i'm not sure about it. what i'm sure is that i wanted to not pay attention to those songs because they were kinda getting on my nerves. other than "randomly thrown songs" i remember what was also good about this movie.
jerryblake
jerryblake - 8/5/2017, 4:56 PM
@FASELI - also i saw it like two years ago so i might forget about some thinsg. but the note i gave the movie is still on one of my accounts. with some props like Starscream or Orson Welles voice putted down there too.

anyway .. it's not like i reviewed this movie like 15 years ago.
Luminus
Luminus - 8/6/2017, 11:20 PM
@jerryblake - You're wrong. And how were the songs "randomly" added? That makes no sense.

1. Instruments of Destruction plays when the Decepticons are murdering the Autobots on the shuttle.

2. You got the Touch plays when Optimus arrives to open a can of kick-ass on the Decepticons.

3. They're Really Stupid plays when really stupid-sounding Junkions are attacking the Autobots.

4. Nothings Gonna Stand in Our Way plays when Hot Rod is fighting off a bunch of killer fish, as he tries to rescue Kup.

I mean, really, the songs fit EXACTLY. Do I need to even go through the whole soundtrack?
