BOX OFFICE: TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT Opens In North America With A Series Low

Six months ago, most BO pundits would have guessed that Transformers: The Last Knight would be a $1 billion hit. However, its North American debut points to some serious audience fatigue...

Five films in, it appears as if moviegoers have finally had enough of the Transformers franchise. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that The Last Knight debuted on Wednesday with a disappointing $15.7 million. That pales in comparison to both the $37.7 million made by Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's $62 million. Both of those opened on a Wednesday too.

Tracking pointed to a five-day haul of $70 million - $75 million, a huge dip from Transformers: Age of Extinction's $100 million
haul, but Wednesday's number signals a disappointing $65 million.

The hope now is that Transformers: The Last Knight will be able to make up for this disappointing result overseas. $217 million was spent on the release before marketing costs and there's a very good chance it will still be a hit. However, it's unlikely to get anywhere near $1 billion and there's a very strong possibility that this performance could change Paramount's plans for all those spinoffs and sequels.

Will you be watching Transformers: The Last Knight this weekend? Let us know in the usual place.

@Desrow - Now if it can just top Suicide Squad as the most profitable DC Film, the future of Wonder Woman, and the DC Films Universe, will be secure.

@Desrow - I have rarely gone to the movies, averaging once or twice a year, but I think I'm going back to see WonderWoman a THIRD TIME. A pleasant experience every time I see it, and I love hearing the audience react at the funny parts. This movie has revived my hope for comic book movies, especially DC. Now, God help them to fix Superman. His story up to now in this universe is still crap. I imagine they're going to use his "death" as a means of giving him new perspective and will to help people all his own, but it's too little too late. I dont know how theyre going to do it and I hate that we're in this mess.

Technically the movie was good but everything else about it sucked. Easily the most annoying characters in cinema this year.
