Quite some time ago, we heard that Paramount Pictured had assembled a writer's room to lay the foundations for a Transformers Cinematic Universe that would be made up of live-action and animated offerings. Last year, Michael Bay even hinted at as many as fourteen different projects being in the works, one of which we'll see later this year when spinoff/prequel Bumblebee blasts into theaters.
However, after Transformers: The Last Knight bombed at the box office, it appears as if the plan is to now reboot the franchise and start over. Transformers 7 was supposed to be released in 2019 but that's been removed from the release schedule in a promo image shown off by Hasbro today which makes it clear that there's nothing in the works between now and 2021. So, what's happening?
Well, the toy makers have revealed that the plan is for the franchise to be rebooted after Bumblebee is released, something which makes sense when you think about it. After all, the studio is working on a new take on G.I. Joe, Micronauts, and a number of other toy properties, so bringing Transformers into that fold could result in something special. As always, stay tuned for updates on this as it develops.
