Hugo Weaving confirms Megatron’s return in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Megatron is THE main villain in the Transformers Universe, sure there are other villains that poke there noses out every now and then but Megatron is the villain that always seems to be around.

adelaidenow.com.au broke the story:
"IN town to promote his rather excellent new Aussie film, Last Ride, Hugo Weaving let slip he’ll be returning as the voice of Megatron in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Fans no doubt will recall that when we last saw Megatron, Sam (Shia LaBeouf) had rammed the All Spark cube into his chest, thereby destroying him.

Despite this apparent death, rumors have been circulating the villain was going to make a comeback. Director Michael Bay went so far as to flatly deny the rumor, telling Empire: ``He’s not in this movie.’’

Turns out Bay was fibbing.

``I’ve already done it,’’ Weaving says, adding Bay had told him to keep the news hush-hush. ``He’s over in LA and we were working on the video split sort of thing and I had this strange conversation where he seemed to imply it was all a big secret. So there you go I’ve given you the secret scoop.’’

So how is Megatron resurrected?

Weaving is coy about revealing too much, but does give a tiny hint.

``I think in the last one, doesn't Optimus Prime pick up a little bit of, a little shard of the cube, or the thing that’s left, and he takes it with him. Maybe there’s something there… but I don’t know,’’ he laughs. "

If the Megatron rumor is true, which I think it is due to the above article as well as the Megatron Toy announcement last month, then that's cool. Megatron is THE main villain in the Transformers Universe, sure there are other villains that poke there noses out every now and then but Megatron is the villain that always seems to be around. Even sometimes being stuck in the back ground Megatron is still present. It would take an enormous amount of screen time in one movie showcasing Megatron for him not to be in a future sequel. This off course is not the case with the first installment in the Transformers movie franchise.

Joob234,
That was the first thing I thought about when I saw the trailer. Plus I read somewhere that sound wave was one of them and we see ravage (sound waves right hand man..err cat) walking out of the ocean...so I thinking the pulled Ol Megs out...

I love how M. Bay flat out lies, lol always keep you guessing.

LOL When they dumped Megatron in the ocean in the first film I think just about everyone thought to themselves "He'll be Back". I mean really we know you can't have a transformer franchise WITHOUT Megatron. This movie is going to be badass!

@ NEO,

Yes, the guy that voices Optimus is the one that voiced him in the original cartoons and animated movies.

it would have been dumb if megatron was killed off for good the way they had it in the movie anyway. as soon as i saw it i kind of took it as a temporary ending, just until the next movie

He isnt back though.
Go on Micheal Bay's forums.
He's only in the movie for back stories about the Primes, so it's flashbacks of him. He's got hardly any screen time at all.

Great. so you're telling me that Megatron really did die from Shia LaBeuf puting a flashy rubic's cube into his chest?

bumblebee - 3/9/2009, 6:19 PM
He died from the allspark yes, it's the way Micheal Bay wanted to do it I guess.
But he's definitely not back properly.

First of all that 'flashy rubics cube' is the allspark jeeeeremy. Show some GD respect! Just kidding. Just doing the fanboy thing. Anyway, I really don't care who's in the movie, Bay's in the business of making kick ass action movies, and he does it well. and yeah he flat out lies, he said he was going to after all the leaks from the TF on the net. Makes it more fun and gives us nerds something to talk about, no?

I do wish Soundwave would be SOME sort of radio/boombox/mp3 thing or other satellite just doesn't cut it for me. Bay could do RC justice but not soundwave? C'mon.
bumblebee
bumblebee - 3/11/2009, 7:10 PM
Yeah that's true.
He might do soundwave properly, from what i've heard recently he's getting in the guy who orignally voiced soundwave though :D

to be honest, this isnt a suprise, ofcourse Megatron will be in the sequel, it would be stupid to think he wouldnt

Sticking the All-Spark in his chest came off as a typical Transformers way of turning Megatron into "Galvatron" which was done in... 4?.. 5?... Transformers shows already?

Anyone familiar with the source material ought to realize that Galvatron will be in this movie. And if Bay follows the Transformers mythology to the letter then Galvatron will probably turn against and kill/banish Starscream which will lead to his ultimate undoing.
