TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS Merch Reveals Early Look At Optimus Primal And Returning Bumblebee

Some newly revealed Transformers: Rise of the Beasts merchandise has offered a first look at both Optimus Primal and Bumblebee, with the latter taking on a form that should be familiar to longtime fans.

After Bumblebee mostly restored faith in the Transformers franchise among fans, there's now a lot of excitement surrounding Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Creed 2 director Steven Caple Jr. will helm the movie, while the project has already found two impressive leads in Anthony Ramos (In The Heights) and Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah).

As the title suggests, the 1990s-set movie will put the spotlight on characters from the "Beast Wars" era of storytelling, meaning we'll get to see the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons in live-action for the first time.

Now, some merchandise for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has been revealed (via SFFGazette.com) offering a first look at Bumblebee (who now appears more in line with the version in Michael Bay's movies thanks to what looks like Camaro parts) and Optimus Primal. They're the leaders of the Maximals, of course, and Optimus looks beyond badass here.

As you can see by following the link in the Tweet below, Prime has his gorilla fur and looks very much in line with the version from the animated TV shows and comic books,

Hopefully, an official first look at the movie isn't too far away. With Transformers: Rise of the Beasts still over a year out, however, we're not banking on a trailer dropping quite yet, though it would be surprising if it doesn't find its way online at some point before 2022 wraps up.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is currently set to be released in theaters on June 9, 2023.

Looks close to the animated series. I wish however they would've taken some inspiration from this piece of art that was done some time ago.

@Fares - Primal being a 50ft tall robot guerrilla kinda goes against his entire design.

Like, he's 10ft tall in robot form.
Fares
Fares - 6/14/2022, 7:52 PM
@kazuma - Well yeah I guess that's true, but the size isn't the part of the design that I like. But that aside, doesn't Beast Wars happen in an era before humans? I don't think the animals would mind a giant robot that much.
kazuma
kazuma - 6/14/2022, 8:09 PM
@Fares - Well they chose the animal designs (with real fur, skin and flesh), to protect them from over exposure to energon. The Beast modes not being robotic served a purpose.
And the Maximals and the Predacons were small due to the lack of Energon. The Cybertronian race "shrunk", to combat the energy crisis.
And the show is set before humans but they're from the future. Like, the Autobot and Decepticon war is in theor history books.

I'm not against change but making Primal a 50ft robot guerrilla just goes against his deign and feels weird imo. Like, is cheetor going to be a 50ft tall Cheetah?
I just hope they give a good reason why.

I'd be okay with Primal being a big metal statue of a guerrilla statue that happens to be a robot. Kinda like what they did with Jetfire in Revenge of the Fallen.

@kazuma - Oh I see, I didn't know that much about the lore. When it comes to the design, I find that the combination of metal and fur/skin to be a bit weird for Transformers in Robot form, and that's why I like this more robotic design. Maybe they could've made them transform from a biological-looking animal to a full metal robot, like that robot chick from Revenge of the Fallen. I just like the idea of them just crashing on a planet full of animals and mimicking the first life form they encounter to the best of their ability, which may happen to not include the ability to mimick organic matter.

@Fares - I care more about TF than Marvel and DC, and Primal is my favourite character. So I'm just being nitpickiny. I know I'll probably just be happy to see him on screen.

@kazuma - oooh rare to meet someone like you my friend! I hope the movie delivers for you.

@Fares - I mean, the whole point is that they're animals, not giant versions of those animals. That kinda defeats the point of being a robot in disguise.

Also, yeah they probably would care. A gorilla that size would probably be considered the alpha of the group. That would really mess with the ecosystem of the gorillas.

@kazuma - Well well well , it seems that I've met a fellow TF connoisseur :). Just to clarify on the timeline a bit (for the rest of the folks), originally you had the G1. era (Optimus Prime, Megatron, then Unicorn and all that) then in the distant future the Autobots had ultimately won and were replaced by the Maximals while the Deceptions were replaced by the Predacons (which, if that name sounds familiar it's because they were originally a G1 Deception combiner team of ferocious animals). As @kazuma mentioned, due to Energon supplies running low, they both had indeed been reducing their overall size (a trend that started with the G1 MicroMasters), and at the time the Beast Wars starts they were in a time of relative peace with the more sciencey Maxiamls as the ruling class and the Predacons as the oppressed warrior class. The Maximals came into possession of the Golden Disk (the very same one that we Earthlings launched into space onboard the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 missions), and the Predacons snatched it and headed off into space lead by a guy who took on the name of his evil predecessor - "Trumpatron", sorry, I meant "Megatron". A crew of Maximals, headed up by Optimus Primal, pursued (obviously I'm abbreviating the story here). By that point in time the Transformers had developed "Transwarp" drive technology which enabled them to transcend time and space, and both the good guys and the baad guys ended up on a prehistoric Earth which was very heavily covered in Energon which, as @kazuma was saying, resulted in both factions having to use organic beast modes to shield themselves from the radiation (in case you ask how is t that some of the characters are dinosaurs (like Megatron) in addition to scanning the surrounding life forms they were also able to scan fossils and such). So thereby began the "Beast Wars", which *spoilers* ended up tying into the original G1 TF mythos. *whew* (I did that all on one breath).

So with all that in mind, it will be interesting to see how they tie it all in with the Bayverse/quasi-rebooted gobbldeygook that is the current TF movieverse. And @kazuma, being as I'm a G1 kid BW was always second place to me after G1 so I would say that G1 Gridlock was always my favorite so I'd like to see him in live action, but we all saw how that turned out, so... maybe Jetfire? No... um, how about Hound? No... Sideswipe? No... well I hear that Wheeljack is in this one and maybe (wait, I'm being told that he turns into a VW minibus) *sigh* Okay, I'll just hope for the best :).

@Origame - I don't remember them living among their respective species in the show, but I can barely remember anything from it honestly. But that aside, any transformer can easily become the dominant individual of the pack if they wanted to, regardless of size. And I don't see them living under the mercy of other animals so why wouldn't they be dominant?

@Fares - Tigatron lived among the other white tigers rather than at the Maximal base. He was portrayed as being very respectful of nature and more in touch with his beast side than the others. I even remember an episode where one of the normal tigers died in the crossfire during a battle (Snowstalker!) and Tigatron was so shook that he decided to become a pacifist and give up the beast wars.

I'm a little confused about why they keep choosing to make movies before the first Transformers film. Is it because the studio has no idea how to chronologically follow the Bay trainwreck of the Last Knight and there are no strings attached to playing around in the 90s?
TheIronDuck
TheIronDuck - 6/14/2022, 6:18 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - Bumblebee was a reboot. the only connection to the bay films is the Bernie Mac easter egg.
Chuck420Taylor
Chuck420Taylor - 6/14/2022, 7:08 PM
@TheIronDuck - but I feel like the reason for the reboot was because the last knight bombed. It did bomb didn't it?

@Chuck420Taylor - stateside it underperformed relative to the first four.
Origame

@HeavyMetal4Life - with the success of bumblebee and the disappointment of the last knight, they're treating it as a reboot.

That art looks great but that transforming mask seems pretty wonky. Kind of an odd thing to have transform. And looks to pretty uncomfortable for the wearer.
