Season three of The Boys is now shooting, and that hopefully means we'll get to watch the series before the end of the year. Now, some set photos have emerged which offer our first look at Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy. Unfortunately, it's not the actor in the costume, as a stand-in was used while the Supernatural alum is quarantining before stepping in front of the cameras.

The costume definitely pays homage to the comics, though we still don't know which version of Soldier Boy we're getting here (chances are it could be a mixture of the three from the source material).

It's also worth noting that the character is clearly alive and well in the present day, as he's attending the premiere of Dawn of the Seven. That movie was being shot during season two, and famously parodied Avengers: Endgame's big female empowerment moment during the final battle with Thanos.

In related news, Variety reveals that The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has enlisted his old Supernatural colleagues Meredith Glynn, David Reed, and Jim Michaels to work on this upcoming third season.

Check out our first look at Soldier Boy in The Boys below:

Really excited for this, Jensen Ackles was way too talented an actor for the show that Supernatural ended up becoming. It’s early seasons were quality, but everything from 8 onwards was terribly written, phoned in crap. Except for Jensen’s performances. The guy who plays Sam is a nice bloke but was never a great actor. This guy is the real deal and I hope he gets movie star roles from here on out. He has great range, very funny, often heartbreakingly dramatic, great action hero. He’ll go far.

But goddamn if ‘supernatural writers’ isn’t a red flag after the last eight years of writing on that show.

@connorblaze - to be fair SPN had crap seasons before the eight season hit. Season 3, 6 and 7 were God awful.

Glad for Ackles to have gotten so meaty part on a respected show. Hope his career stays relevant

@Blergh - Nah season 3 and 6 and 8 were good to great, it ended up becoming bad in season 7 and 9.

My favorite episode of the whole show is actually from season 3, it's actually one of my favorite tv episodes of all time: Mystery spot

"though we still don't know which version of Soldier Boy we're getting here"

Wasn't it going to be the original Soldier Boy? Doubt we'll see the one that wants a spot amongst the Seven

Is Boys worth the watch ?
I'm a little more familiar with the comic, but I've heard it's became a little detached from the source material

@LittleSween - First season was great! Second season was a major disappointment. That's my personal opinion. There was nothing new or exciting with season 2

I’m surprised no one said it’s not comic accurate he’s white in show but he’s black in comic that is what will happen if it was marvel movie

Finally Jensen is a superhero. He was my pick for The Flash.

I don’t think that’s a stand in, that’s probably the guy playing him in a soldier boy movie.

Jensen was always the perfect Scott Summers for me.

@sKeemAn - One of the top picks for sure. My number one is Armie Hammer, he just screams Scott Summers...
