The Wheel of Time returns to Prime Video on September 1, and the streamer (via SFFGazette.com) has now debuted the first trailer for the second season.

While season 1 focused on The Eye of the World, season 2 will adapt what is generally considered one of the most popular novels in Robert Jordan's sprawling fantasy saga, The Great Hunt (though it's also expected to include elements of the third book, The Dragon Reborn).

In the season 1 finale, our heroes believed they were successful in vanquishing the Dark One (Josha Stradowski, but, as Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike) points out in the teaser, all they did was "set him free."

Now, Rand Al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), aka The Dragon Reborn, must attempt to come to terms with the fact that he is a lot more than just a "spoke on the wheel," and harness the immense power flowing through him if he hopes to save his friends - and the entire world - from a terrible fate.

Check out the trailer below, and let us know if you watched the first season of The Wheel of Time in the comments.

Based on the best-selling Robert Jordan fantasy series, a humble farm boy, Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski, Gran Turismo), learns he is The Dragon Reborn—a dangerous figure from history destined to save the world … or break it. Desperate to protect him from the Dark One, an army of powerful sorceresses must reckon with his burgeoning power and encroaching madness. The Wheel of Time turns, and the Last Battle approaches. Though Rand thought he destroyed the Dark One, evil is not gone from the world. In Season Two, threats new and very old seek out the young friends from the Two Rivers, now scattered over the world. The woman who found and guided them is now powerless to help, and so they must find other sources of strength. In each other, or themselves. In the Light ... or the Dark.

The Wheel of Time: The Hunt for DEI.

Another great property whose very premise has been crapped all over as quality and faithfulness to the source material have been tossed in the trash.

@DocSpock - they had to rewrite the last two episodes because of covid, because they could barely get any extras, because one of the main actors suddenly left the show. and yes, those were a bit sloppy, but overall, it was pretty faithful to the first book (which is probably one of the weakest in the whole series). okay, one major change that sucked was the idea that dragon could be reborn as a girl, but they didnt change the identity of the dragon so it made no impact in the end. actually, it is more faithful to the source material than the boys, and yall love creaming your panties over that one.

@rebellion -

I like the Boys mostly, but not with the intensity that most on this site do. I kinda got bored and just finished that last season 2-3 weeks ago.

@rebellion - The female as dragon change was completely unnecessary and frankly lore breaking. The primary reason a dragon or false dragon is scary is because men access the tainted form of magic.

Many of the other changes were more minor and some annoyed more than others.

But the other massive change that is based on writing and not COVID was the five low level female magic users that defeated the trolloc army at Fal Dara instead of it being Rand. Not only should this have been the first indication the dragon has been reborn to the world at large, it was also supposed to signify his true scary level of power. In addition, the Trolloc are now much less scary than they should be at this point in the series. If 5 weak women in a circle can defeat an entire army, then what threat will they pose later on as the main characters all grow in their power sets? I’d also argue giving Perrin a Two Rivers wife somewhat ruins some later character arcs for him.

I will say this trailer looks better than season 1, but it looks like it’ll have many of the same problems.

While this isn’t Witcher or Rings of Power levels of bad, this show could have been the next Game of Thrones if it had been adapted properly.

I did not realize there would be a season 2. Cool!

On another note speaking of not knowing....where in the hell is the Salem's Lot film? I have not heard one word, seen one trailer nor can I find it on the upcoming film schedule for this year.

@Forthas -

I read that it is likely, though not confirmed, dead. I am kind of interested in that, so I hope not.

@DocSpock - Wasn't the film shot already? In the early part of this year when everyone had their most anticipated films lists I thought I saw it was scheduled for release this year. So it would have had to be filmed and at least in post production.

The Wheel of Time is probably my second favorite series ever and season 1 crapped all over it. This second season seems to be pretty heavily diverting from the book as well. I don’t think I can take a second season of this.

@MrDandy - If Rand seemingly is in his solo journey from the third book, then he won’t be involved in the main quest from the second one. Which means he likely won’t come in contact with the Seanchan and will not save the day at the final battle just like season 1.
