THE WALKING DEAD Season Finale Synopsis Suggests That The Show Will Follow The Horrific Events Of The Comics

With 2 episodes to go until season 9 of The Walking Dead wraps up, a synopsis for the finale would seem to confirm that the series will follow the disturbing events of the comics. Possible spoilers ahead.

If you've been following season 9 of The Walking Dead you'll know that there's big trouble brewing between Hilltop/Alexandra and the sinister Whisperers, and if you've read the comics, you'll probably be well aware that things escalate to seriously disturbing levels.

Spoilers for The Walking Dead comic and quite possibly the show from this point on.

Around this time in Robert Kirkman's comic series, Alpha marks her border by killing several characters and sticking their heads on pikes as a warning to Rick Grimes. Among the more prominent players to fall victim to the deranged Whisperer leader are Ezekiel and Rosita.

Obviously we don't know if the show will follow these events to the letter, but the synopsis for the season finale, "The Storm," does confirm that our heroes are going to suffer "an overwhelming loss."

In the aftermath of an overwhelming loss, the communities must brave a ferocious blizzard; as one group deals with an enemy from within, another is forced to make a life or death decision.

What do you guys think? Are Rosita and Ezekiel (among others) for the chop, or will the show pull a swerve and kill off someone we're not expecting? We should find out for sure in next week's penultimate episode, "The Calm Before."

Please just let it end. Does AMC have any other shows or is that why they're clinging to this property with cold dead zombie hands?

@SpideyPuffsMJ - they will let it end when it dies. Clearly enough people are still tuning in, myself included, for them to keep this going

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I'm a big critic (or used to be) of the show but I've accepted it for what it is. It's no breaking bad, or game of thrones. But I enjoy the world.

And it frustratingly has brief moments of brilliance interspersed between questionable plot decisions

@Vigor - Plus didn't they announce yet another spinoff was in development on top of the Grimes "movies"?

@SpideyPuffsMJ - The show can end for you nh time you want. There is nothing g forcing you to watch or read about it. Absolutely nothing.

And yet here you are flapping your lips about something you don't like (allegedly).

You want it to end? The choice is yours.

It's been great this season. Last ep was excellent.

Ezekiel, the old couple, and a few more people are kaput...for sure. Rosita should get a pass...she's the hottest woman still alive on that show.

@LordHarryLatts - that's quite a shallow comment all through

@LordHarryLatts - and it would be more of a shock to kill rosita, because she's pregnant

@Vigor - Won't happen. They didn't even have the cojones to end Judith.

@incredibleTalk - Last episode was filler and not even in the comics in any form even though Rick is gone from the show. They never should of killed Carl if Rick is gone from the show too. It would have been cool to see Carl and his sis Judith take the reigns but to late now since Carl is dead. Biggest mistake the writers have done IMO.

@Deagle -

I said this to someone else on here, but the writer's were forced to kill off Carl. It was not a decision they WANTED to make. The actor wanted to live his life and go to school. Can't fault him for that after growing up on the set of a zombie show...
ThouBear8
ThouBear8 - 3/19/2019, 1:16 PM
@SKetCH - that isn't remotely true. Chandler Riggs & his family have been very clear that he literally bought a home & was going to school locally so he could still do the show. He was completely surprised when they told him they were killing him off. I have no clue where you're getting your information from.

@ThouBear8 - I heard this as well. I heard his dad was pissed that he even asked the producers if he was going to stay before he bought the house and they said yes, then they kill him off. Dumb move.

@SKetCH - absolutely incorrect. Chandler bout a house in Georgia expecting to be on the series indefinitely.

Sorry to say this show lost me two seasons back and I’ve tried to watch an episode here and there and it still seems same old blah. Glad folks are still enjoying it though. Oddly enough been collecting the comics since issues 25 and feeling like that storyline is getting tired too.

Killing Carl off was the nail in the coffin
SKetCH
SKetCH - 3/19/2019, 11:25 AM
@zeon00 -

They kinda had no choice. The actor wanted to go back to school and move on to something new.
zeon00
zeon00 - 3/19/2019, 11:35 AM
@SKetCH - they could have written his character off the same way as Rick and Maggie by not die
SKetCH
SKetCH - 3/19/2019, 11:46 AM
@zeon00 -

Eh, not really.
With all their writer's room talks on expanding the universe, they knew what they were doing with Andrew Lincoln before Carl's death... possibly even Maggie's exit. Would you really want the writer's to do away with THREE major characters in such a boring fashion?

Also, there was no real organic way for Carl's character to go missing or off on his own.

Now, I gotta say, I don't think Maggie is fully gone. I think they let her step away, but she's gonna be the one to come back outta nowhere and introduce our people to the Commonwealth... maybe.

The show has heavily deviated from the comics in the last few years, sticking to some story beats, albeit with different characters.

I absolutely love how people are complaining about elements of this show that are rooted in the source material... can't wait til they see what's next!

And what's next is... BIG. Our survivors go from dealing with the most primal savages yet in the Whisperers, to dealing with a high-class, police state with the Commonwealth.

Let's hurry up n kill Alpha n Beta and introduce Princess & Mercer!!

Hasn't it been announced that Danai Gurira is leaving after this season? If so, I'm guessing she could be killed off in the season finale. Or is it after next season that she's leaving?

I still watch. Lost interest a bit after Rick left, but I think the Whisperers are an interesting group, and there's still enough people around to care about to keep me interested. I know they gotta keep killing off characters to keep things fresh, but now I'm a little worried that they are running out of interesting characters to keep around. Maybe as long as Daryl and Carol are around it'll keep going. And they gotta let Negan off his leash.
